Baldur's Gate is being evil to me, it refuses to be installed. something along the lines of setup.exe being an invalid dos file, and that it might be damaged.

    ...

    Um.. help me...? please ?

Well, my friend, i'd have to say and this is not the best advice but either check your computer for any glitches or buy a new game.

uh-huh. so... how would one go about checking one's computer for glitches...? for... first of all, having not played Baldur's Gate at all, I do not know if I'll like it or not, and do not want to go buy a new copy of something I'm not sure about, and, um, well, BG1 is tough to find nowadays...

First thing you could do is try to install it on a mate's computer so you can see if it's the computer or the disc. Just a thought.

    mm-hmm...

Try installing it on someone else's computer... and if it screws up there, the disc shall be officially declared... um... bad ? broken ? evil ? the eater of souls and destroyer of dreams ? ... I like that last one best.

Then, if that happens then you get your reciept, state the problem, get refund and then buy another DIFFERENT copy of BG1

a small problem with that... I've had this game since around christmastime, have lost the receipt, and when I tried to return before, they denied me my money, claiming that it worked fine on their computers. so... perhaps I could get a fake moustache, and pawn the game off on some unsuspecting bystander...?

one thing i noticed is that u said that setup.exe was not a valdid ((dos)) file
the reason this strikes me is because bg dosent run in dos, it says this on the minumun requirments on the side of the box

Hmm... then I wonder why it's trying to run in dos... strange... perhaps if I reverted back to using directx 5... at the moment I've got drectx 8 or something... and father thinks it may be a part of the problem...

umm... so... if it doesen't work in dos... what is it that it works in... then ? ... something else ? what's it called..? perhaps I can try opening BG with that.

I had some problems with DirectX8 too when I replayed the game a month ago, so try to install that Directx version which is on the BG disc.
