Let your cleric cast "find traps", then summon creatures and send them ahead to clear your way  So you can finaly put the scrolls of monstersummoning II you get when waylaid to some good use. Should work ;)

you can detect them with clerics... you cannot disarm them without a thief but you should be able to avoid most traps, except for traps on doors and chests... You can leave them or just see how much damage it does :)

Ragusa, I tried to use summoned monsters to set the traps off but it didn't work me, none of any of the monsters I summoned would set it off even though my enemies could. Pissed me off.
Is it a bug in my game or can no-one else have their summoned monsters set off traps?

No, we've tried this way back in TOSC ( Durlag's Tower) and it didn't work there either. No summoned monsters can set off traps.

Yeah, its probably best just to have a thief in your party and disarm it. You get experience too.. good stuff.

Traps aren't as deadly as everyone seems to think. When I was playing my Assassin/Mage and had not yet regained my thieving abilities stoneskin seemed to absorb most traps.

  9. I beg to differ. Let's remember the pesky poison traps and prismatic spray traps. Those that keep repeating. Not to mention the stone wall trap in Spellhold.

That trap in spellhold is undisarmable, go around it. Posion traps DO NOT get through stoneskin, and if you have decent saving throws you'll never be turned to stone or any other thing. I'm just saying you *can* manage without a thief, I did it through most of chapter 2.

I finished the game numerous times without a thief. The only time the traps really troubled me was on the highest difficulty level. Some traps just gave instant kills because the damage was doubled. I see why you'd play with a thief, but you can easily do without them.

If you're doing the game without a thief, your mage should be able deflect the traps with the Level 5 Mage Spell 'Minor Spell Turning' even when opening trapped chests.

Of course, you would need the Knock spell to open the chest.

Actually I never tried the summon-thing myself ("...should work...") :( such a nice plan  .... One more reason to choose a thief: travel safely by gathering xp when disarming traps ... ;)

[IMG] The magical effect of triggered traps like hold, level drain, desintegrate etc. can be blocked by some clerical spells like chaotic command, negative plane prot. and death ward. So, having a cleric around is always welcome.:)
