There are a couple of things you can do.

One, you can do quests that get you reputation points. Some are the slaver quest that starts in the copper cornet, the trademeet quest (there are actualy 2 that get you rep points their) and the Unseeing eye quest that starts in the temple district.

Two, you can upgrade your rep in a temple by donating money. In the back of your manual there is a table that shows you how much you need to do that. Its a lot of money, between 200 and 5000 gold peices depending on how many rep points you already have. You cant get it higher that 18 in a temple though.

I don't think anyone is questioning how you ended up with a reputation of 8. In fact, I believe Chaotic Evil characters start with a rep of 8. I believe Laksol's point is that, under normal circumstances, you should still be able to rest at an inn with a reputation of 8. This being the case, there must be some externality preventing you from doing so. Are the people in the inn hostile? Have you tried a different inn with the same results?

[IMG] I have had this bug before. One of the patches fixed it I thought, but I just went to a couple different areas until I could save, then quit, and loaded the save game that fixes my problem, only happened once or twice though.
