[IMG] Okay, something really weird just happened. I'm playing BG1 for Macintosh. My party's walking out of Thunderhammer's smithy, where Jaheira got a sling +1 and Khalid got some bracers of archery ID'd.

As soon as those two step out the door, they haul off and kill some passing commoner! My reputation dropped from 15 to 9.

Anybody have a clue as to what may have caused that? Was my reputation too high?

I've never heard of pcs attacking commoners if/when they are unhappy with your rep. Were the commoners hostile before J & K attacked them?

Did you have party AI on and for some reason the townspeople turned red? You didn't do anything illegal in the Smithy did you to get townspeople mad at you? Because Jaheira and Khalid would never go killing innocent townspeople for no reason. Party members will never actively lower your reputation, Jaheira being neutral might complain but that's about it.

No, all the townspeople were blue. Nothing happened that I saw to provoke them. Tres bizarre.

Wow, well if that's not grounds to boot someone our of your party then I don't know what is...

but I've had similar things happen, (LITTLE SPOILER)

on the "woofie" quest in the area south of Nashkel, I had Montaron scouting the area out. At one point when I went back to where the rest of the party was to have them move along and catch up, I recieved a combar report in the text window! It was Montaron backstabbing Woofie! When I clicked over to Montaron, there he was standing over poor Woofie's dead body! and I KNOW that I didn't direct him to do it, I wasn't even operating him at the time.

After reloading I tried to duplicate the problem, but when I found Woofie this time (and I was watching), Montaron didn't attack.

    strange bug.

I know that without the little chew toy that the boy gives you that Wofie is hostile It is posible that montuon trigger wofie into attacking and montuon just struck back.

Well Montaron backstabbed Woofie, so no, he didn't get attacked first. I think it is entirely possible, however, that Woofie "had a red circle" and so Montaron automatically attacked him.

I'm not sure though, one of the characters had the chew toy, and like I said, I couldn't repeat the problem.

All the times I've done it Wolfie always starts as hostile and you have to wait a round for him to go green.

Just thought I might mention it happened again.

I was coming back to Beregost from Nashkel. As soon as the town loaded, Khalid, Jaheira, and this time Branwen, too, all went and shot some townsperson. He was red this time, for some reason.

All three of them are set to use the defensive scripts of their respective classes, so I think they're all going to go back to default.

Well maybe he was walking around hiding in shadows, and he didn't completely leave shadows before attacking... aaaand the wolf happened to stand with his back to him.. I guesss it's possible!

I suppose it's just some bug... WHen this happens again, just reload and walk out of the smithy (for example) first with the others and then with Khalid and Jaheire....

Ah, are there already patches for BG on the Mac? Could also be the solution.
