This is my first post. Love the board keep up the good work, thanks.

I was just wondering has any one played a character through the game, and then near the end exported then imported into a new game. I have xp cap removed and went thought as a fighter then dueled to magic user in a new game. Them went thought again, solo. Very powerful, character. I always found something new, and played each time with a different style of play, very fun.

Not cheating? Debatable. But it’s definitely powergaming (not to say that you suggested otherwise). I could get exactly the same results by starting a new game, with a new character, and use the console to give me, say, 4,000,000 XP (or whatever you end up with when you do your export). Do the level-ups, and start playing. Because I used the console, I have cheated. Of course, you could argue that you worked to get your high-level character, and therefore didn’t cheat (although some might argue that using the XP cap remover is cheating). It’s the importing a high level character into a game designed for a low-level one that could be considered a cheat (personally, I’m not sure whether it’s cheating or not, but IMO it’s certainly cheesy.)

Anyway, I’ve never tried this, and I must say that I have no desire to do so. Speaking strictly for myself, this would suck all the challenge and fun out of the game. This isn’t to say other people wouldn’t want to try it, though

    Anyway, welcome to the Boards!

That's an interesting technique you have, though using the console would be much easier! I do this if I just want to try something new -- I've beaten the game several times without cheating, so now I just like to fool around and try different combinations and other such activities.

But he wrote in his post that it have been fun so I guess he wanted to do this without the console.

Keep on playing man, and welcome to the boards.

I tried this, but I found since I had recieved the 'immunity to normal weapons' bonus from the Tears of Bhaal it made many parts of the game trivial.

    Welcome to the boards!

Well, as much as I'm loathe to admit it, I did take the same character through BG, BG2, TOB, back into SOA, and through TOB once more. Not really sure why, but it was, interesting, to say the least. Well, actually, it was boring and almost no challenge the second time around. I did kinda enjoy the feeling of power though...

Another easy way of starting a high-level character in Irenicus' Dungeon without using the "console"(I assume you mean shadow keeper) is to just create the character in ToB(if you have it) as a pre-generated character then just import him as your PC in SoA easy :D

By the way I'm only new to the boards, even though I'm not new to the game so hey to you and to everyone!

Although it would completely take out the challenge of almost everything, I might try it. I think I'd like the power :p .

Some things in BG2 will become more difficult to compensate for higher XP. You'll find extra trolls at de'Arnise Keep, or bonus liches in dungeons where you don't expect them. Overall it's still a lot easier though.

There is a component of Tactics that always spawns the toughest allowable monsters in dungeons, so you'll face the extra liches regardless of XP.

He never asked if he were cheating or if it is considered cheating, he just asked if anybody else did this.

Well I have, several times actually. I like to see how my character would fare after all that he has been through in a solo game. It is rather sily that if you summon a familiar, export your character and start again, you still have the extra hitpoints, without the familiar! This enables you to sumon a new one, gain the new hitpoints, export, import and so on. Cheating? Yes, but I've accidentely discovered it when I use the character for a third solo game. I just love to use him again to kick the snot out of everybody who gave me a hard time during my first time through the game.

I played in such a way once. I found a perfect portrait for my f/m/t. I came up with a perfect backgroundstory and had a good feeling for the character in general. So once I'd played through, I thought that why should it end?

It was fun for me really, playing the true child of a God. I did this only once though, since it was obviously so easy that a second time would've been downright boring. But it was fun to wade into combat with 2 regular NPC's (Aerie and Imoen if I remember correctly) at my side, and slay any threat with pure raw power like it was nothing. All those pompous mages and dragons really had it coming. And really, although this is cheating in exactly the same way as just using shadowkeeper or console to get exp, it does feel better because you've still earned your way there. It's how the old psychological principle of satisfaction (wrong word I know, but it can be translated as such from Finnish) goes, once you've gone through a damnable amount of trouble to get something, you're darn well going to try and like it wether it was worth it or not.

Besides, I always thought the whole bhaalspawn thing was overtaken anyway. I mean, compare your own character (unless you were the powergaming überstat rolling type) with any other NPC in your party. How much more powerful does your protagonist *really* get than them? Especially in the official modless game? Not much. Certainly not enough to justify all that bull you hear of how the bhaal in you has granted you great power. You must certainly be a natural-born weakling if the power of a god was required to make you little more than a normal purebreed human NPC. To me it was actually fun to have heightened resistances to elements and magic, and to be able to take on armies of normal enemies with no worry of getting harmed (the previously mentioned immunity to +1 and less weapons).

I'd say it's worth a try at least.

Edit: Argh, sloppy me. Shouldn't make replies during work. All references to ToB removed.

[IMG] Foradasthar, please edit out all ToB references out of your post. This forum is for SoA only - people posting here do not have ToB, nor do they want ToB spoilers.

i did it in BG, but never SOA... It makes for a stupidly powerful character at the beginning of the game, and you can do most major quests in about 15 minutes. But, its true about getting the power buzz :)

    I´ve done it to.
And I even had a reason for it :)

I mean, you´re the son of a God, shouldn´t you be abit more powerful than regular humans?
Well, I think so and therefor I tried it.
I dont remember a single fight that had the slightest difficulties in it though. But it was fun, that one time.

I laughed as my level 34 Cavalier sliced every enemy he encountered into tiny little pieces.

Then I got bored with it and stopped. But it was enjoyable for a while.

You already ARE a bit more powerful than regular humans. See that little star button in the bottom right corner of the screen? Click on it, and you will get your menu of Bhaalspawn powers!

I have to agree and say it gets boring too. After the challenge is gone, doing quests becomes a nuissance to me rather than for fun... which defeats the purpose of "playing" a game.

I found it rather entertaining when I made a gnome illusionist, and got him to solo about half the game. I Imported him into a new game and he was able to get his revenge on everyone and everything that ever beat him up!:EVIL
