[IMG] I need help from someone proficient in figuring out weapon damage. I've picked up a halabred(not sure which one). It list it's damage as 1d10, thaco +4. It also has +5 points of special damage. How would this weapon differ from a 1d10+5, thaco +4 halabred in the damage it can cause.

You are probably talking about "The Wave", +4, and there is at least one important difference.

    The wave deals elemental damage:
    cold, acid, fire, etc...

Thus, creatures immune to raw physical damage are subject to this additional damage. Such is the case with Adamantine Golems and a few of their cousins. Non-highly enchanted (i.e. +5) weapons do not damage certain creatures. However, this special damage is a way to get around that. So also is the case with Frostreaver the Axe, and the Flail of the Ages.

Thanks, but what I was getting at is there any difference between the specail +5 damage it does and the typical +5 damage a regular magical weapon would do. It's damage is 1d10 with +5 points of damage from fire, acid, cold, etc. Will this be any different in the final damage tally on a sucessfull hit than a 1d10+5 weapon. It enables it to hit creatures only suceptable to certain damage types(fire, cold, etc.). But is there any difference in damage to normal creatures. Also, for examples sake, are you saying this weapon will not hit the demi litch when a *regular* +5 weapon will, but it will deal out a little bit of damage from it's elemental damage.

The +5, +4 affects your THAC0. If your base THAC0 is 10, a +5 weapon will drop it to 5. +4 will drop it to 6, etc.

What it means is that the weapon will hit and do damage to anything that can be hit by a +4 weapon...but a creature that is immune to damage from normal weapons will not take the 1d10 damage, but will take the +5 damage from acid, cold, etc... You still have to be able to hit the creature for this effect.

Kinslayer, you mean that if you have a Protection from Magic Weapons, you still get damage from acid, cold... ? Maybe you are right, but I doubt a lot, tough I never verified...
