[IMG] Phaere has sent me to get the blood of someone royal, and no one told me that there's a time limit. She sent me on 117th or 118th day, and on 121st day, she showed up and knew i was a surfarcer. Umm can anyone please tell me if there's something i did wrong? I didn't kill Solaufein nor the gnome patrol...please help? I did kill the elder beholder though, but reason i went to Kuo-Tan city where she caught me was because i wanted the equilizer pieces...

There is a time limit on most of the quests in the drow city, the ones that are required anyway.

You may do all those dungeons (beholder, mind devourers, kuo-toa) after the city anyway.

EDIT: Except one, because you need the eye-stalk/blood/other thing for the mother (one of these).

You could also do the three cities before you get to Ust Natha. What I did was do all the underdark quests possible before meeting up with the dragon that helps you get in the drow city, as well as cleaned out the mind flayer, beholder, and koa tua cities. Then I went to the dragon and finished up with the drow.

You should try reloading the game from where you autosaved before she got mad, and head straight over to her, so that you can get the quest, and not anger Phaere, (dang wh***).

btw, how do you avoid killing the patrol?

    SPOILER

When you head over to whre you'll run into the patrol, talk to Soulafein before they arrive. You can tell him that you'll handle it and he doesn't have to hang around. Once he leaves, just tell the Gnome patrol leader you need his helmet and he'll give it to you.

Xindell - Only works if you've done two of three things in conversation with Solaufein, IIRC.

    1) Tell him it doesnt matter what your name is (When meeting him)

    2) Refer to Mind Flayers as Illithids (15+ Int)

    3) Apologize for causing him trouble (Just before Rescuing Phaere)

Of all the lairs present in the Underdark? Which would be a wiser choice to take, considering that you have a time limit.

The Illithid Lair took me a very long time, keep getting meself held by their psionics!
    Any solutions for this?

Chaotic Commands gives protection from the mind flayers attacks but they'll still drain your intelligence. I just used to have my thief set snares, creep forward till they came into view then run for it. The mind flayers would follow, stumble into the traps and get killed. I didn't kill all of them but it was easy enough to get out of range, rest and set more snares for the others.

If I needed to do one of the lair quests quickly, I'd go for the beholders as the item you need is on the first beholder you encounter. With the mind flayers, you have to wipe out the whole lair to get what you need and the kuo-tuo lair takes a while to fight your way through.

@Thais: You sure about that? I always play a good party, so I ALWAYS avoid killing the Gnomes. Now, I always refer to the Mind Flayers as Illithids, but I never say my name doesn't matter, and I'm relatively sure I don't ever appologize to Soulafein for causing him trouble either. I realy don't think it's necessary to do 2 of those things. But, I certainly could be wrong.

@Zephyr: Depends on your party. If you've got the Anti-Beholder Sheild of cheese, then the Beholder lair is a joke and you can easily complete it. Plus, the Beholder that gives you the eye stalk is in the first chamber, so you can literally go in, kill him, take the stalk and leave. If you don't have that shield, then the Illithids become much easier if you've got someone who can summon Skeleton Warriors and Mordenkainene's Sowrds to send after the Illithids. Both of them are immune to the psionic attacks and to their brain eating.

Well, I actually thought Skeleton Warrios still got owned by that, but I haven't been in the Underdark while having Skeleton Warrios in quite a while... No matter what I'd say the Kuo's are the easiest, pack your mages/sorcerers with Death scrolls/spells and their parties die instantly, (except for the mage Kuo).

Nope, Skeleton Warriors are immune to the Illithid's attacks. Problem is they tend to get their asses handed to em by the illithid's pets. Fortunately, Umber Hulks fall to Death Spell. As long as you are of high enough level, you really only need 1 mage to get through the entire illithid complex. Just max out your Death Spells, Summon Skeletons, and Mordenkainen's Swords. Easy as goblin pie.

Just how strong can an illithid be, I mean, I find them unbelievably hard to kill. Zap, you're stunned and then, your brain gets turned to moosh ala whipped cream by them.

Even with chaotic commands, it will go off after some time and it will mean a persons death in the case.
And, if aan illithid fires off a psionic blast, it will follow the person all the way across Fearun and back. There's simply no way out of it!

If only I have the Psion's Blade much earlier and not in the expansion only...

    *EDIT*
    New Gem! :D

Xeros - Possibly I was wrong, I always do at least two of these, being NG as I am, but its possible you only have to do one.

Zephyr - By the time I entered the Illithid Community in the Underdark I had Myself as a Lvl 18 Monk (-6 AC/+3 Attack) and Minsc (Level 14/15 - unsure, with -7 AC and Frostbrand (?) +3 Two-Handed Sword.
In any case, by luring them to me one or two at a time I easily took them down.

The tactic, I guess, is to either go in with good Attacks and low AC or summoned Undead.
As for that unerring Psionic blast, the only defence I could come up with against it was to get the Illithid I was luring to fire off the blast before he attacked me, then run off a short way (using haste/Boots of Haste)out of its field of vision.
They usually only fire off one or two Psionic blasts, so once you have those out of the way you're pretty much fine to luring him onto your own turf.

Ring of Free Action makes you immune to Psionic Blast, and there are two of them before you get to the Underdark.

If you got discovered in the Kuo Tao caverns, it may be that you got too close to the exit. If you go too close to the exit of the surface your cover is blown and it's game over. I don't ever remember running out of time doing the quests for the Matron Mother, and I know I spent a lot of time in several of those areas.

There is a time limit, but it's a very long one.
