Sadly...I saw the first one ever. Which is sure to date me.

    MTV...Test pattern, hour rocket..."Ladies and Gentlemen, Rock-n-Roll."

Then they played the first video I ever saw:

"Video killed the radio Star" by the Buggles

Hmm, this is testing the memory banks, but it is bound to be one of the following:
    Michael Jackson - Thriller
Dire Straits - Money for Nothing
DD Smash - Outlook for Thursday
    Nena - 99 Luftballons

I have no idea - Pretty Fly by The Offspring is the earliest one I can remember that made an impression ... or maybe Blue by Eiffel 65 (that had a really, really cool clip :) ).

In reality it was probably some totally unremarkable pop crap, but meh...

Such an annoyin song, but good in a cheesy nostalgic way. I usually pick this one for the dance machines.

As for my first music video:

Being a child of the 80's, it was probably Spandeau Ballet, ABC, Culture Club or other 80's New Romantic music! I still like that music though.

Perhaps "Wild boys" by Duran Duran or "Stay the night" by Chicago but I'm not sure.

I am not 100% certain of this but I think that it would have to be Michael Jackson's Thriller.

I think it was Roy Orbison's "You Got It". I remember thinking it was a cool song and video. Obviously I wasn't into death metal back then. :D

Heh, I remember those days now. I did not get to see the first one, but it must have been just a few days after the "launch" of MTV. They had like 12 videos, all cheesy, in the first rotation. It seems there was one that was extra cheesy, with some guy who thought he could sing, screaming: "LOVE IS LIKE A ROCK!" Just dreadful, maybe even worse than it is now. Nah, maybe not.

I think it was Thriller. There may have been others but that one really stuck in my head.

Either Mickey by Toni Basil or You Got Lucky by Tom Petty. Pretty early standards from 1983 MTV.

How can people possibly remember this stuff? I'm always baffled by these "The first [instert something] you ever saw?" threads, as I can't even give a vague idea of an answer to any of them. Even the first morning in the army is supposed to be something memorable, and I must've forgotten all about it a month after. I do remember other far more memorizable mornings though.

Foradasthar - maybe you getting too old and your memory is getting a bit dicky. Plenty of youngsters on these Boards who haven't been around long enough to forget anything yet.

Every Breath You Take by The Police. MTV was running four versions of the video--the "original" being black and white, the other three were blue, red and yellow. I saw the blue and white version first.

    @Foradasthar
Yes, I still remember my first day in the US Army.
