In my previous game, my party got very little EXP for doing quests (though it was actually the proper amount). They didn't gain levels particularly fast and my PC (highest-level, single-class character) was not even lv15 when I finished *all* the ch2 quests. What is going on? Someone who posted sometime said they had almost 3 million exps before heading to the underdark. What am I doing wrong, and is there anything (short of soloing or playing with less than a full party) that will help me get my levels up?

[IMG] How many mages do you have in party?

How many spells have they learned?

1-9000 exp isn't much, but.... I currently have my PC, but he's a Sorcerer, and Aerie, but she can't learn too many spells. In Spellhold I'm going to replace Yoshimo with Imoen though.

Consider how many people are in the party too. Quest experience points don't count, but all other experience is divided up between party members, so the less you have the faster you get higher.

*sigh* I did say that I don't want to play with less than a full party (it's really not very fun. I love it when my characters snipe at each other). But when I decide to solo my PC through ch2 to get bonus EXP and then pick up my characters at higher levels, and then I *still* find myself at lv11....

Yeah learning all the spells you can find are definitely worth it, even though you rarely have need of them. With potions of genius there are no limit to the spells you can have.
Besides it's nice just to have them on the off chance you might use them after all.

I had six people in my party the entire time, and I know I hit my main character's XP cap before going to the Underdark, so it is definitely possible.

Really dumb question here: You're not a druid, are you? Because level 15 is as far as a druid can get in SoA!

Anyway, there's tons of XP available in chapters 4-7, too, and you shouldn't have any trouble there with your level 15 party, so I would just go on ahead. You'll be able to do any quests you missed in Athkatla after you get back anyway. If you really want more XP now, then make sure you've finished your Stronghold quests, do all the side quests of all the NPCs, and don't forget to kill some of the optional but high-powered beasties like Firkraag, the Twisted Rune, and all the liches. (I have a quest list at http://www.geocities.com/bigorrin/amn.htm if you want to double-check that you've really hit everything).

[IMG] Thanks everybody.... I think I'm going to solo through some of the easier quests though. I'm definitely not playing a druid ( :D) and, tjek, I use your site constantly, so keep up the good work! :D

Really? I played a solo (well, for the most part) Sorcerer and wound up at 4 million experience at the end, far exceeding the cap (I checked with Shadowkeeper.)

OK, since despite the repeated warnings against it, people still insist on posting ToB material in the SoA forum, if I see mention of ToB material in anyone's post in this forum, I will simply delete it.

I would say finishing Ch2 and then already at lvl 15 isn't band at all!

One other little tip to maximise the xp you receive with a full party is to make sure that early on you get all the chars you intend to go through the game with, leaving the last slot open (in reserve for when you get Imoen back) and using that slot to get the other npcs and do all their little side quests. If for example you dont intend to use Minsc for some reason then boot him out of your party at the start so the others that you will keep will get more xp from the dungeon and circus. Likewise with Jaheira.

[IMG] It was probably my post you read about having almost 3m xp when going to chapter 4.

My protagonist solo'd many quests but did not finish them to get the Quest XP award from them.
When he was at the right level he picked up the NPC's he wanted and together they went and finished the quests. Tricky, eh? ;)
Also the core party was he, Viconia, Korgan, Edwin and finally Valygar (at ~0.5m less xp), so only five characters there.

Yoshimo filled out at 6th spot but he had almost no xp at all since he was never a true party member.

I posted how to figure out what level NPC's will be when you pick them up here: http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/Forum2/HTML/003607.html

[IMG] Raising the 1-month-old dead posts I see.... and, for your information, I would never cheat a character's experience!! I'm not desperate. I would just like it. I used to cheat.... I quit. Quickly. You're right, it DOES ruin everything; I found that out for myself.

If cheating is evil, can I give Eddie the robe of vecna from the console? He's evil.

You folks need to lighten up.
