These are the core values that every American is entitled to who resides in this great nation. At the risk of sounding preachy - and it is a terrible risk that one sometimes must take - these values are worth defending. What that means is that I, my family, my children can live our lives as we see fit; that we can become the masters of our own destinies. But it means that we are also part of a greater commumity. And it means that the liberty of all Americans is of equal worth. Our forefathers laid down their lives in the belief that future generations would enjoy the liberty and freedom that we take so much for granted today. To be a patriot is to understand that all Americans should become their own masters, and that at times we must defend those freedoms.

But freedom is not preserved through the simple force of arms. To be sure there are times of exception when the force of arms is necessary to protect that freedom. But those times are rare. It is mostly acting on the values in which we say that our nation is founded. It is "owning up" to those beliefs, even though it is not often in our own self-interests to do so. Most of the time freedom is protected by the performance of the virtue, integrity and humility; in our own nation, states and communities, and on the world stage as well - not only by how many bombs we have in our arsenal.

These documents protect the freedom and rights of all individuals in this country. Even the right NOT to defend them by force of arms is still a right that should be upheld. That someone should choose not to pick up a rifle to defend these documents is still a time-honored American tradition. Since the Revolution those who believe that violence is not a virtuous defense has had that right acknowledged.

Personally, I would defend these documents by any means that are in alignment with these stated core values. It is not the same as nationalism, which often means that the rest of the world has to be and think like Americans. No way - that would be un-American.

As Americans we often disagree over the meaning of the rights that are listed below. But as an American, I would defend any other American's right to disagree, as I would hope they would show me, as a fellow American, the same courtesy. This is patriotism. When we extend these rights to all the members of the world community, it becomes patriotism in action.

Yes! I love my country and I show it.
My favorite national holiday is the 4th of July...not only because I get to blow stuff up, but because of what happened on that day way back in the late 1700's.

I think that if you are not proud of the country you live in, I think you should find one you would feel proud to live in, and move there. :rolling:

Proud of my country; but disappointed in the current leadership.

And yes. Canada is one of the many things I'd lay down my life for...but I'd be much happier if doing so would actually *directly* achieve something.

I concur with Faerus and BOC. I would fight for my rights and my family. But I also wish we had a government with balls.

    Chandos, a simple 'yes' would've sufficed ;) :p :shake:

Me, I'm not patriotic. Hell, I consider the majority of my fellow countrymen to be utter morons who are supposed to follow the lead of a harry potter lookalike. And my countries history? Nothing much to be awfully proud of either.

I'd die defending those I love but our country? Not really.

    @ Morsmordre

Like I said; post your personal opinion and do not question others.

Currently, it's 19-14 for Unpatriots United (UU), and it seems that the goalkeeper of Patriot Power (PP) is suffering from a severe hiccup -a sure sign of trouble to come. :D

No - I do not think that Holland has ANY reason whatsoever to support patriotism.
Morsmordre - although England is one of the relatively few countries that IMHO do give reasons for patriottism, someone disagreeing with that is no reason for agressive flaming like that.
Get a grip, cos this actually warrants a ban.
(NB: If I accidentally missed a post where SA was being really trollish, and I don't mean anti-patriottic but really assy, please let me know where. And I shall apologise the next time I'm on BoM)

What’s this about my own country? It is not my own country, I am not English and neither is any of my bloodline.

It is funny that you say that. I have a lot of English friends that I go drinking with and they have not got a good word to say about this country, they know it’s a hole same as me.

I am going to love it to. I will dance the day I leave this hole.

I think Sarevok and Mo should arrange to meet, have a good old-fashioned fist fight and just get it overwith. ;)

I do agree with you to a degree (about your PM that time). But even if England made Ethiopia looks like heaven, I'd still be patriotic.

No hard feelings anyway btw. No need for harsh feelings or w/e. For the most of it I am just messing about anyway tbh, lol.

    I'm not that sad :p :p :p . lol

Although it's strange, I'm never the same away from't net. Really a nice guy ;) .

I apologise for what its worth, but I still love my country :)

Okay. I am not patriotic, not at all. I don't see why I should risk anything for something I don't care about. I am not really proud of anything Sweden represent, because what DOES it represent really? We haven't really done anything great, and if we have, it's not the country that did it it is most likely a PERSON that did it. Too many here are nationalsocialists (sp?) and fight to keep Sweden "swedish". I don't like it, because the patrotism over here is looking more and more like rascism. Of course, I like to live here, this is where I grew up, but to me Sweden is just a piece of land with some laws, just like many other countries. I wouldn't fight for it, nope.

    Germany 1-1 Holland

Fair result in the end. Amazing the difference a few subs on the Dutch side mate. Especially van Hooijdonk (sp).

Sidenote: I will keep an eye out for the young German lad from now on. Schweiztieger or w/e. Good looking lovely player from what I saw.
