Doesn't matter - in the US, "organic" has nothing to do with fat content.

A little cholesterol is healthy for you.

That study is very inconclusive. Parkinson's disease is caused by degeneration of nerve cells (link). Considering the technology of the world today, that degeneration can be caused by a wide myriad of things including cellular phones, satellite TV signals, pesticides on foods, etc. You don't even need to use these things to be exposed to the chemicals.

"actual components in the milk and dairy products"

Dairy products only come from cows.

Juice: Great! I don't know about anyone else, but I can't stomach the idea of putting down a litre of juice. You know when you've had too much sweet, sweet juice.

Milk: It's got some things you need in it, but don't go nuts. I've heard these rumours of the chemical they use to seperate the fat from the milk being a touch carcinogenic - so it's that or the all the artery-cloging fat? My consumer anxiety remains unresolved, but I reckon the creamy stuff tastes best in:

Coffee: I don't think drinking this all the time is such a hot idea...when I decided to discipline my intake I started to get headaches. I also had a recursion of the symptoms (Caffine in: Tastes great! Little Later: Don't feel so good :- Caffine IN!) I suffered when I quit having all of those:

Coke and Pepsi's "Soft Drinks": No longer can I have more than just a sip of Cola (or whatever). The way the stuff sticks to my teeth has lost it's charm. I'll bite my tongue on the political reasons not to drink these, though I suspect my feelings about those led to my one day thinking: "I've had enough sugary flavoured water. Surely I can drink something better?

Ale: You know it makes sense. Drink the ones with high ABV's so that you'll pass out before you can imbibe too many "fluid ounces" (a.k.a. "oz") of the poison bread.

Bottom line: nearly all foods are fine in moderation.

But some foods require more moderation than others...

This is a subject for a whole other thread, but the main source of cholesterol is not the actual cholesterol that you eat that is already in that form, but the stuff created in your liver, which is mostly controllable by reducing your intake of saturated fat of which there is hardly any in skimmed milk.

Is the tap water really so bad in the places where you guys live? If so, why? Shouldn't a drinkable water supply be a basic part of most towns and cities? I can't imagine living somewhere where I couldn't drink the tap water. At the very worst, I had a filtered water jug when I lived in London, but all my drinking water still came out of the tap.

When I still lived in Iowa, the water tasted rusty. Some of the 'towns' still used wells or just had crappy water-cleaning systems. Not everywhere has drinkable water at all, ie: no facilities or available space for a separate water supply.

Also, some people (myself included) are just too cheap to buy a Brita filter or similar. In Newfie-land, the water tastes better than what I drank back in Iowa.

Yes, I can't believe how far out the debate has gotten. I just read the fruit juice comment as 'funny'. Then again, we're arguing about where milk comes from. :heh:

It is. Both head and stomach. Everything you lose from your skull reappears tripled in the stomach-area. ;)

By the way, I rarely drink water straight from the tap. I usually replace it with milk, juice, and occasional drink at the city (be it mineral water, cider, coke, or such). No reason to got the tap. Also, I remember reading some years ago about an article that claimed that british tap-water has gone through 16 people before ending to your mouth. Kinda groce, isn't it?

Surely it has gone through more than 16 people and animals, given that most of the water in the world has been around for billions of years. Plus, if you’re worried about where water has been, what the hell do you think makes up 99.99% of juice, milk, Moutain Dew etc…….

No, I will not. If you think cows milk and dairy products are good for you, eat and drink them. I don't care. Go and make an appointment with a reputable nutritionist, buy a few books on the subject, educate yourself.

Oh btw, sorry, I did get the 8 stomachs part wrong, it is actually 4. I don't know where I got 8 from ;)

Gnarff, I think that's actually the second time it's happened, I just didn't post the other. Blame it on the solstice coinciding with the full moon! :D

I drink on average 4 pints of beer a night, then closer to 8-10 at weekends.

That would be 2 litre a night and 4-5 litre at weekends of booze. I'm wrecking my body :( .

Nevermind, it tastes good doing it. :p

Sounds like what I used to do during the Hay Harvest before I gave up the booze...
