[IMG] I was wondering if someone could shed some light on the above mentioned...
Are there any repercussions if you kill all those slaver guards in CC and people in the boat house?
I'm wondering because it's obvious they've paid off the Cowled Wizards so they could trade with slaves but I don't want to find a bounty on my head by the wizards or something.
Also, is it worth to pay off the CW so you can practice magic in the city? Or do they still come after you if you cast something potentionally devastating?

    1. There has been no repercussions to killing the slavers, not yet at least.

    2. The Cowled Wizards will come after you if you cast magic within the city.

for casting in the city, it just depends, sometimes you get ambushed by thugs... or harpers... stuff like that, but you could prolly beat them with out magic

To be honest, there really aren't any times I've seen thus far where you need to cast mage spells in the city. The wizards only come after you if you use it in the streets, and there a few good fights in the streets where your fighters can't just whack their way to victory. Cleric spells can be used with no penalty as well. The only problem is when you forget about the wizards and accidentally cast a spell. This happened once and a bunch of cowled enforcers attacked me. Still, by the time you can waste $2,000 on a liscense, you really don't need it.
I don't know if there is a penalty from the slavers or not. I have not found one yet, but the operation apears to be secretive and illegal, so I wouldn't think they are allowed by the government to operate.

Kill em. Kill em all. Those Slavers deserve the 'sword of justice' given in full measure. Read what the captive Children say about how they are treated, and also Hendak -boy does he win you over. You have to help him after he's done pleading his case.

As far as magic in the City - I've never paid those CW's anything. Just because in 'essence' they are the 'enemy' who unjustly imprisoned Imoen. IF you need Mage protection spells like IronSkin,Armor and the like just dive into a merchant building or Temple or Inn and cast those on your party members. You wont get attacked by CW's that way.

If you do cast in the City the CW's dont appear to get 'tougher' in battles. So after 12th lvl or so take them out to. It's the CW's PLUS Amnish Soldiers,Captains,Legionarres & Centurions that are the tougher battles! My EVIL party has lots of those groups spawning!

2000 $ is practically nothing. Currently I've got 160000$ (chapter 3) and I can't find any good items to buy with it so it's burning a hole in my pocket. Anyways I think it's actualy $5000 for the liscence, but worth every penny, the minor in-city quests often require a bit of magic back-up so no offense Draco, but you're wrong about it. :D

Ah, but they are allowed by the government to operate. That's why I was asking.
As soon as you enter that ship building a dwarf or gnome will start cursing with something like : Arr, haven't we paid off those cowled fools enough not to bother us all the time.

And yea, it's 5k for the licence.

[IMG] I found the licence useful when on one occasion a badguy was getting away so I threw a magic missile at him before he vanished and got me some booty, it also helps with the vampire night encounter...besides it's not much and so far I haven't had it taken away, as for the slavers, once I got rid of them I did notice that the random encounters were never slavers anymore as they had been before the ship quest, maybe just a co-incidence but I was quietly pleased.

Taluntain, the way I read it, they are an illegal operation and not "allowed" by the government to operate. Here I interpret "paid off those cowled fools" as bribing the authorities not to clamp down on them or to give them a tip-off when the right authorities do. It's like gambling and prostitution, only much worse.
The dwarf or gnome initially thought that you have come to collect protection money again. IIRC, immediately after, he says something like: Hey, it's not them. And then starts attacking your party.

Gunthar perhaps your playing a Thief? With 160,000 gp I would hope so! I also had near 200, 000 gp with my Thief (Evil Party) at one time. He had stole/resold & purchased every item of value in Athkatla City. Need to spend some cash?, shop around Trademeet, perhaps you'll find something to buy/steal there.

There are probably 7-10 'outside' city fights in the Game. Several are 'spawned' parties (low level)that attack you while traveling from district to district. Others are 'midnight' vampire fights. One or two may be Harper related, depending if the spawn IN the city instead of when you are travelling abroad. 5,000gp to an 'ENEMY' (the Cowled Wizards) for the amount of fights that POSSIBLY(7-10?) can happen has never been worth it to MY role-playing gaming. If you wish to pay an enemy 5,000gp for those few fights... 'sup to you'. Not me. :)
