So the archer can be grand master in any ranged weapon, right? Bows, crossbows... But NOT slings. Why? Maybe they are "hand-to-hand" weapon? Ha!

Since when slings are archer's "to get mastery in" weapons?

Those are ranged, yes, but... You could also ask the same question why aren't the darts included in archers' mastery.

  3. Ex, he didnt say they were avalible for Archers to Grandmaster in.

To the Topic at hand -
Im thinking that Slings arent so much precision(yes I know hey cant be used a such) They are more for close up fighting, and yes, they can be used hand-to-hand(though, just not in BGII). Bows, and crossbows, are long-distance precision shot instruments, and that is what an Archer is, a long range precision instrument of war.

[edit]just cant type tonight at all...[/edit]

No offense or anything, but why would you create an Archer and even want to use slings? I mean, archer is defined as one who shoots with a bow and arrows.

    Twang! Archers shoot with bows.

Look it up in the dictionary if in any doubt.

As to why - you would get a really powerful character if you dual-class an archer (who uses slings) to a cleric.

On a side note - do called shots work with slings??

These are fair points, but I can see a lot of justification for a Halfling specializing in slings (I have a feeling Ragusa mentioned this some time ago).
