I ticked the box that says "sleeping pills", but that's not strictly accurate - what I sometimes take is melatonin. This is mostly a prevenative measure for me, because if I take it when I've already gotten tense and frustrated about my inability to sleep, it won't help.

Beyond that, assuming I've failed to sleep, I'll either caffeinate myself until the evening in hopes of sleeping at a normal hour and hence reasserting normal sleeping cycles, or, if I'm too shattered to keep myself vaguely conscious, pass out as soon as I realise I'm not going to make it till evening. If I have to be coherent for something but will be too zoned out if I stay up, then I nap.

And mostly, I try not to get stressed, as that's mainly what brings the insomnia on....

I read or watch TV. TV usually puts me to sleep.

I stay up till I collapse, but I'm usually reading until I do.

Extremely rare that I suffer from it. It has happened in the past but only for a night or two (Usually stress related).

I could usually drop off by concentrating totally on a different topic and then trying to blank the mind.

Oh, and sex helps as well.

I almost never have problems sleeping. At night, that is! :)

The one thing that can keep me awake is if the weather is too hot and humid.

My problem isn't not being able to sleep, it's not having enough hours to allow for sleep.

I can sleep anytime, anywhere. One night, I didnt even wake up when the house across the road was on fire and the fire brigade pulled up with sirens wailing. I thought that was a pretty good effort.

I'm not a regular insomniac. If Real Life has intruded very forcefully, I start worrying and my mind races. To solve it, I get up and do a variety of things (some work, some don't) - doing boring tasks in RS, read a book, cry. I had a bit last night, topped with a headache and a hubby who's snoring made me want to do nasty things, but I plugged my ears and applied pressure to my forehead.

I rarely have trouble sleeping, but when I do, it's one of the things I hate the most. My normal trick for falling asleep is to not think of anything, but that takes a lot of focus. It seems like I can't focus sometimes, and I seem to be thinking about the most unimportant things for hours, even though I'm not really aware of the time.

I used sleeping pills a few months ago when I had the flu. Lifesavers.

Bad sleeper here. I had a really bad bout a couple of years ago when I was really not looking forward to it becoming evening because I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to fall asleep again. It comes back now and then, especially when in stressy or new situations, but I'm better at handling it now, I like to think.

I'm chronically insomniac. I take prescription pills which sometimes help and sometimes don't.

If I had time to (and could force myself to) exercise long and hard each day, that would help some, though not solve the problem entirely. But no time and less motivation makes that unrealistic.

Sometimes listening to very soft, very low-key music helps, though if it involves my CD changer, the changing CD wakes me up again.

I wish I could say this is due to my age or something else that will change but it has been a problem for me since childhood.

I take medication which helps me sleep and I still fall asleep at around 4am every night.

On the other hand, once I do fall asleep, I have absolutely no trouble sleeping (for up to 16 hours at a time), so I'm not sure if it qualifies.

I suffer from insomnia occasionally. Fortunately not lately, though. When it happens I either just keep trying to fall asleep (usually fails miserably) or I take some sleeping pills. Reading sometimes helps, too.

I suffer insomnia when something bad is plagueing my brain. It just rattles arround and I just can't do anything other than think about it. In those cases I lie in bed and put on some very calming music like Loreena McKennitt or Enya. That helps me relax to a point where I can fall asleep. Sometimes I have needed to take anti-histamines to go to sleep, but not often.

I definitely don't suffer from this. I love my bed, sleep rox. If I don't get a good 8 hours sleep a night, I get cranky and mardy.

Bahir, i use the same trick, but last night for some reason it didnt switch my brain off. It switched everything else off tho, which is kinda weird, yet comfy at the same time, to have your body asleep but your mind awake.

I have the same with Taza in that once I'm asleep, I have no trouble sleeping for many hours.

But I have very hard time to get to sleep, usually I wait until I drop, which doesn't give me very much sleep if I have to go to work the next day.

I've found that if I take a couple of beers, most of the time I have no trouble to get to sleep, but I don't want to make a habit of taking a couple before sleeping.

Tried sleeping pills and while they worked, I didn't like the feeling when I woke up, you know, a bit groggy or whatnots, although I did see some funny illusions/hallusinations for the 20-30 minutes that I was awake before Morpheus claimed me. :D
Every time that I took them I saw a party in the shadows where I keep my jackets and shirts, 'twas funny to look the people partying in there. :D

I take sleeping pills when I have work the following night, and need to fall asleep fast. On the weekends, I opt for booze. And caffine everywhere else in-between. :rolling:
