Some NPCs' classes impossible?

    [IMG] Look:

Aerie is a Cleric Mage ELF, already tried to recreate one? Hint: Try Half-elf!

Imoen dualled to a mage with an intelligence of 16? Does "...must have at least 17 in his secondary classes prime stat" sound familiar to you?

    Anyone found another inconsistence?

Addition: Yoshimo has a very low "set traps" score. Wants to be a bounty hunter?? But this is no impossible issue, just an addition.

[IMG] I tried being a mad inventor gnome, but that didn't quite work out either. My suspicion is that the npc's you meet are simply to be taken for what they are... gifted. Would you rather travel with plain jane straight class losers like anomen? You're the child of Baahl for crying out loud, you're just gonna have to make do! :)

[IMG] I AM NO CHILD OF BAAHL! Feel my wrath, puny Skull!

I am a child of the god of murder - BHAAL!

Anyway it is interesting what you say: Only a "spawn of a god" must have ultrastats like 17 INT (which is VERY intelligent!). Normal human beings may dual whilst having a not-so-high INT. They are no remarkable beings, not of such interest as you (or I respectively). A god-spawn can't have such a low INT when dualling.
Does this make sense? Am too tired.

[IMG] Haha back to the drawing board Nobleman ;)

As for the NPC's, you got me. It's interesting to look back and see the classes and kits that they picked these NPC's to be.

I sit corrected (and dutifully ashamed)of my carelessness in spelling bhall or bhaal or baalh. I was going to add the following...

The one little inconsistency which i found to actually bother me was when i discovered Hae'r Dalis (sp? uh-oh) has his own set of uniform colours. What gives?! How come I can't dress in funky clothes like that dapper elf?? What's worse, if you try changing his colours, you'll never get him back into his old colours. I've never really been a fan of the customization part of the game in general. Why should i have to go so far out of my way to find a new portrait that i like? Or voices? Why only one hair style per class, and what gives with the two tone wardrobe?? I remember Pools of Radiance on my c-64 had more options to customize characters. Want a shaved headed grey dwarf with a long white beard wearing a black jumpsuit and wielding an axe bigger than his body? You got it.

[IMG] Jan gets some special colors too, but if you fool with the color changer you loose them just like Haer'Dalis. Jan's pointed shoes crack me up.

Nice rationalization, but Imoen is a Bhaalspawn too, so it doesn't quite work. (-:

Maybe she'd already dualled but then Jon sucked a point of intelligence out of her while he was torturing her. He apparently took her belt off the second time, too... I don't wanna think about that too much... (-:

As for Aerie and Viconia, they're not normal elves. Aerie is avariel and Vicky is drow, so though they're elves as far as the game play is concerned, they have some different powers. It doesn't bug me that Aerie has special magical abilities and Viconia has magic resistance. I haven't played a pen and paper game with avariel in it, but I wouldn't be surprised if cleric-mages were legitimate in that subrace, just as the magic res is for drow.

Anomen is quite impossible too. Cleric dualled from a Fighter with 12 Wisdom?! Even with his improved Wisdom it's impossible.

What special magical abilities do Aerie have?
I never took her too long, just to explore her special powers and I'm curious that I should try her out or not.

None except for simultaneously having mage and cleric spells. If I was a gambling woman, though, I'd bet that was a real character class available to the avariel in whatever AD&D game they're in. People seem to give their specialty elves huge magical leeway.

Can't get her race right (winged elf with no wings), can't get her class right, can't even get her pantheon right. There's exactly one thing I hate about that chick, and it's this: 'Faster than Chickita Fastpaws!' Sounds like Miss Penelope Pittstop.

I know it's supposed to be some gnomish raccoon or something, but I always hear "Chiquita Fast Paw," which just sounds like a two-dollar hooker's alias to me...!

I think i've had it up to my nose with just about every little battle cry and comment. That sword drove me insane. Giving it to minsc didn't help. It sounded like bobcat from police academy fame. Had to sell it. Anyone ever cast charm animal with minsc? He makes some funny imitative noise. I once got him to charm a groundhog and sent it into battle. Come to think of it, it kinda looked like boo actually... "hamsters and rangers.... rejoice this!"

Julius, if you go to the "audio" screen, you will find that you can turn those comments off or at least turn their frequency down if they are annoying you.

It's a love hate relationship. As repetitive as everything is, it still adds some flavour to the game, i suppose. In a sense, getting tired of minsc's rambling is something everyone would probably do in reality. ("Minsc and Boooo stand ready!!" "ahhhhh shadaaap!") I look at the bright side... at least i don't have a paladin on my squad waxing rhapsodic about doing everything for the honour. Nothing worse than that. I'd take the two dollar whore in a heartbeat in that case.

Keldorn and Mazzy are actually pretty quiet. The only ones whose voice comments get in my way are Minsc (who is just too loud and insistent to ignore), Anomen (who keeps yelling "What is it NOW!"), Edwin (who snarls "Go away, I'm busy" in the middle of combat?!?), and Nalia and Aerie, whose comments are just too out of place. Who cries "For the needy!" or "I--I don't like the looks of this!" as they take a missile shot at a kobold? (Okay, I know Aerie's naive, but after she's scored hundreds of kills, a kobold still gets that reaction from her?) Not to mention "How is THIS helping the less fortunate???" as we tromp off to, say, save children from slavers, or kill a murderer who's been skinning beggars... or enter Nalia's own stupid keep to save her father! *laugh*

Anyway, if you turn down the frequency dial a little, the characters won't say their spiels every *single* time you click on them, which can be a welcome break. (-:

[IMG] hah... less fortunate indeed... that certainly is one of my least favs. I especially like when my reputation goes down from 20 to say 18 and the whole good aligned group concurs that I'm choice. I like valygar's constant repition that he's glad he joined the group when he did cause "this group does good things!". He said that once after i paid a drow to watch a slave explode, i almost broke a rib laughing.

Yeah, I really wish the programmers had taken the five minutes to code in the difference between your reputation going UP and going DOWN. It's very annoying, early in the game, to save the little kids from slavery only to hear Nalia whining "This isn't right! We're supposed to be better than this!"
