It is nice, with dragons, to try Chromatic Orb. As you probably know, by level 12th you must save vs. death or die. Combine with Lower Resistance (or better Magic Resistance if you are low-level), Doom (clerical spell), Greater Malison, and a few other saving throws-lowering spells (does Protection from Evil work?), then you can cast 15-20 Chromatic Orbs - provided that you have three mages - and hope to take him down.

By the way, I read on Baldurdash that because of a bug Chromatic Orb bypasses maqic resistance; you must install Baldurdash's fix to avoid this.

spetznaz - Don't resurrect old topics when you don't have anything of value to add. Also, go and read the forum rules and FAQ as you were asked to when you registered. There is to be no "l33t" spelling in your posts.

    Bah, dragons...
I went one-on-one agains't firkraag and Tiax and barely had a challenge.
Heh, that's what you get when you export your ToB fighter/mage of level 24/20 in Shadows of Amn while playing by core rules.
    Bleh. Had to try...

Exporting a ToB character back into Amn is just lame man. I mean, for the sake of game balance, dont use a superbuffedup superhero (mind the super) in a game that requires LOW LEVEL characters to be challenging. Try beating a dragon when you get out of Irenicus Dungeon, go to the Slums, then directly to the Copper Coronet (after Bayle) and accept Jierdan's offer.
Dont use cheesy tactics, and lets how dragons fare against you.
    Sheez.
Dragons are strong, but Bhaalspawn, who are DEMI GODS, are also strong. Dont forget that.

[IMG] Have you ever killed a dragon with the Cloud Kill? It's fun!
When you meet Firkaag second time, don't go close to him, just cast some Cloud Kill where you think he is. He can't see anybody and won't attack you unless you are in his sight.
Firkaag is quite tricky, and after 8-9 Cloud Kills he heals himself...so you have to attack sooner. A badly damaged dragon won't mean much trouble.
It works only with Firkaag, the others will attack you as they smell your killer cloud.
If you think it's unfair with a dragon don't use this, but this way you won't lose the best weapon in the game; (+5 2H sword paladins only) very effective against Kangaxx...

[IMG] That is super cheese. Firing into the fog of war is amongst the lamest tactics you can employ. If you are comfortable with that, then have at it. It's really lame and not as satisfying as actually defeating the dragon in straight up combat.

    BTW, welcome to the board.

[IMG] Dragons suck and are too weak. I enabled cheatkeys and pressed ctrl + y while having my cursor on one and it died.

Anyway, if you play the game as it was intended, you don't need to whine about anything (except bugs). I tried avoiding (Not charging blindly on? Sue me.) dragons, knowing them to be powerful, and when I finally tried killing one, (no insta-death spells, traps, area effect spells outside line of sight, etc.) I promptly got whacked. Yes, later on they weren't that bad, as I knew what I was up against, but killing them was really pure luck the first time. They still provide a challenge, especially at low levels (shadow dragon with his level-drain breath... *shudder*)

Just walk up to a dragon, talk a bit, and then try to whack him silly. Its alot harder than you think, without preparing for a battle. I mean, you go into a dungeon, do you really expect a dragon to be there (when playin pen&paper fex) in the next room?

    Oh well.

Well, they could have made harder dragons, but what a heck, even Firkraag can prove hard... if you try killing him while you'r on about level 12 or something.....

Well, yes, Dragons, all of them, are ridiculousy easy when you summon hordes of elementals, cast every protection spell imaginable on your party, set dozen of traps around it, cast Magic Resistance on the Dragon, and then have some Kensai/Mage with the XP cap removed have a whack at it. :toofar:

Seriously, if you think Dragons are easy, why aren't you giving yourself a challenge by not being so cheap?

Maybe not fair killing dragon this way, but my lonely character had no other choice. Try straight tactics with an assassin... not match. Assassin is tricky, backhanded. And Firkraag can't be backstabbed. Although I was hidden in the shadows, and he did not see me, followed me with his gaze. And that time [ToB stuff edited out].

I always thought that the dragons in SoA should be fought by characters who haven't gone on to ToB, even if it's solo. Speaking of which, there is none allowed in the forum. Read the description of BGII: SoA forum on the Boards o' Magick.

[IMG] There is one more spell that will work on dragons without lowered magic resistance. Finger of death. Irenicus's dragon never seems to suceed in a saving throw against it.

Why don't you try out the Solaufein MoD? The dragons have mutch better AI when you install it.

Finger of death is the way to do it, just walk up to whatever dragon you find and cast one, i killed Adalon in first try with one cast with this spell :) If your high level, a spell trigger with 3 decrease magic resistance before the finger can help to :)

    No need for cheese:
I beat Firekraag and Thaxxl'ssilyia with two melee fighters, a cavalier (Namarra) barbarian (two +3 axes) and a cleric (sling/ bless, coordinated defence, protection from evil, protection from fear and such), my two ranged fighters Keldorn w. (heavy crossbow of accuracy and dispell magic) and a thief (tuigan bow w arrows +2).
It took a short while but I didn't loose a char and none of my chars took serious damage. And IMO that's much more satisfying than casting a finger-of-deat or using quivering palm ...
