Spell combinations

    [​IMG] I really ilke to cast spell combinations and I think they come in really handy during a fight so I´m surprised that I haven´t heared much about them on the board.

    The lower spell combination is really good, especially to knock out mages at the start of a battle in the early stages of the game: deafness and magic missile on mages or a double ray of weakness on fighters. Also great is to have Aerie cast cleric and magic spell combinations like deafness and silence.

    The higher spell combination is even better, allowing you to combine three spells up to lvl 4: You can cast Fireball, web and skull trap imultanously into a group of your enemies. Or secret word, greater malison and flame arrow or simply three times greater malison.

    Who uses them too and what are the favourite spell combinations you use for which opponent?

    (I don´t know the particular english names for these spells - was it chain contingency spells ?)

    a useful combination IMHO is Protection from Evil and then Defensive Harmony.

    reduces your Armour Classes by 6 for a while... this is usefulif you getting attacked by a large group of enemies... such as Yuan-Ti who seem to gang up on ya and kick your butt...

    also Web and several Fireballs work... and multiple Bless spells always help before a big fight.

    Now when you say spell combinations - do you mean just casting one spell after another? Or is there a way to cast multiple spells (other than contingency) ?

    I must admit that I like to summon monsters when I met other mages . . put them in the middle of the mages and the mages will use some of their high level spells on the summoned monsters. At the same time have the brawny mambers of the party take care of the enemy muscle before moving in for the magic users.

    I'll keep a sequencer filled with magic missiles as a killing blast against something putting a my character at risk of dying.

    Greater Malison and lower resistance are a great duo too.

    Near the end of the game, I kept magic missles in my minor sequencer, and I kept defensive spells in my spell sequencer. I think it was something like stoneskin, mirror image, and another one just in cast my character got too low on hp, I could cast multiple protections on myself at once. I figured all the mages had their contengencies, why couldn't I have my own version of them.

    [​IMG] I know one other way to cast many spells at a same time (not Chain Contigency).
    Did you pay attention to the way Irenicus casts his spells in the cutscenes ?? Very fast and powerfully...
    I know how to do like this (of course that's not a cheat)...

    It's been a while, but my first time through the game I played a mage. My favorite combination was a major sequencer with secret word, breach, and lower resistance. Say goodbye enemy mages!

  10. This is a great topic.

    I just entered Underdark, and just got sequencer.

    On the first, tough group of three drows and three priests, I used

    lower resistance
    slow
    Ice Storm!

    That left deep marks on the drows, but magic resistance protected the priests, keeping them "barely injured."

    The 2 fire elementals, 2 minor earth elementals, and barking dog of death I sent up after them really put the hurt to them.

    What's the simply way to kill those spore demons from hell? Yikes! I did it, but it really hurt.

    What's that?
    Just a dog, from the monster summoning III or is it something else?
    BTW, I'm not yet in the Underdark, are those pesky Drows really that tough? And do they ALL have a magic resistance of 50% like Viconia has?

    I'm guessing the barking dog of death is the Ranger's Moon Dog Figurine.

    The Drow aren't too tough by the time you get there, but there are a couple of groups that are rather troublesome, especially if you let them get the upper hand. I think they all have magic resistance, but I don't know what level.

    You take the leftover demon heart. You make a dog using one of your summon monster....nahh, I can't do it!

    It's just a funny name for one of the mutts that appear when you really needed a Balrog to appear. ;)

    Contingency is great - you can wipe out an entire group of weapker enemies really effective using lower resistance and two tiny little fireballs or teleport. Or if you have a stronger enemy like a lich or a dragon you can combine spells like secret word, greater malison and flame arrow or lightning.

    The higher contingency spell is a really powerful weapon.

    [​IMG] fr34k. . . read back to BTA's post. Sounds like our friend the Ninja is using the Robe of Vecna (purchasable from an add-on merchant in Ribald's shop--get the add on merchant patch from this site).

    It lowers casting time, in addition to a couple other nice abilities. You can still only cast one spell/sequencer a round, but they go really fast.
