[IMG] Stupid Question that I need answers for:

My dad is thinking about upgrading our PC, and if that happens, once everything has been restored, will my saved games still work once I put them back on the game (because I might have to re-install BG2)?

I plan on putting my Saved games on a CD, but I'm just wondering if their is another provision I might have to make.

What is the best way to handle this situation? :hmm:

Well, I think that if you have any mods installed, burn them also on the same cd or put them on a safe place somewhere to install them again or Download, you know what I mean =)

and offcourse all patches you've added, so then there shouldn't be any problems. I'm not even sure do you need the mods..

    Uhhh, let's clarify.

    1) All you do is burn your last savegame file (most likely your quick-save if you're like me). Then you put the file in the "Save" folder, IIRC, (I don't have it installed on this computer) when your dad is done.

    2) If any mods or patches are installed, burn the .exe (or the .zip) files onto the cd.

    3) Try and not go insane waiting for your dad to finish upgrading so that you can get your BG2 fix.

Make 100% certain that the mods are installed in the exact same order that they were originally. Otherwise, there will be some dialog problems.

    Sorry, G. I just couldn't resist.

Rastor...what do you mean by dialogue problems? Will characters voice one thing but say another in the dialogue box or what?

    Mystra's Chosen

You'll get some really wierd dialogues. For example:

Korgan: I like to frollick through the woods and collect flowers
    Solaufein: Eclipse Blade +4
Korgan: When last I was set free from the Underdark, I had to slaughter thousands of elves
    Sola: The Moonblade is the...
    Korgan: Rats!

Or for item names, you sometimes get banter dialogues, item descriptions could give you epilogues, etc.

Ok, I burned my BG2 saves and just recently reinstalled. I pasted them back in the same spot, no mods or anything. I tried to load one of them. It starts to load, but crashes to desktop and says:
    Runtime error!

    Program C:bad:PROGRAM FILES...BGMAIN.EXE

    abnormal program termination.

    Any ideas?!

Is it crashing on startup, or when you try to load one of your saved games? If it's the former, it's probably a problem with your new set-up. Get the latest patches, drivers, etc.

If it's the latter, you should probably re-mod your installation for the save games to work. The save games may be looking for a resource (music, item, creature, etc.) that was added by a mod.

I tend to agree. Reinstall those mods, then try.
