[IMG] I've fallen and I can't get up..... more accurately I'm getting my butt kicked!

The worst part is - I can't get out... you can't leave... and I can't win. I'm still in chapter 2 @ 11th level and I'm up against a lich, beholder, werewolf, vampire, etc. - ALL AT THE SAME TIME!

I have no saves preceding this room. I saved as I arrived (before the fight as per usual) and the game won't let me leave...

I'm dying over and over again... in my own Groundhog's day loop.... AAAAhhhhhhhhhrg!!

You're dead then. The only way out is to get the Beholder's eyestalk after you kill him. You may have to kill everyone...

You're in one tricky situation, with that party it's probably impossible to defeat all of thoose enemies. You can either start the game over since you've probably just played a couple of hours. Otherwise try cheating, import some level 35 warrior and delete him after the battle.

The way out of the room is to place the beholder's eye into the caldrun at the northeast corner of the room, and then go to the machine at the northwest corner to be teleported out. Naturally, that means you have to kill the beholder. With a bunch of 11th level characters (and if you don't have protections for magic and/or undead scrolls, this is going to be difficult, and I don't know what to recommend.

[IMG] evidently it is as grim as I feared.

[IMG] Is there not an Autosave just before you enter the room?

[IMG] Okay - the Twisted Rune room is reached by going through the back door of a building in the Bridge District in the bottom SE section. I had ALREADY been in the building it looks to be the back door for - BUT IT ISN'T....

I had to cast Knock on the door to get in - and you must have a Rogue Stone to get in.

It is, I'm told, one of the tougher fights in the game. You are held in the room until you defeat the bad guys and warp out...

I don't know where in the story you are SUPPOSED to go there, but it is not when I wandered in there I can tell you that!

[IMG] I've defeated Shangalar (and his group) with a solo level 13 sorceror, but this is a bit tricky...

Then again, I've also began Throne of Bhaal with a solo kensai, with whom I got all the way to [snip] before quitting...

Tough break! I would just console in some really unfair weapons (killsw01) and finish the rune. Then do what you have to to get out, and once you're out drop the swords. Save more often!

This fight is one of the hardest I've ever had. I hate it with a passion.

The trick to this battle resides in the fact that you can fight the monsters one-by-one. First try to lure the lich take him out. It is possible that the fighter and the vampire come along, but they aren't nearly as hard as the lich or mage. leave the mage for last. DON'T ENTER HIS LINE OF SIGHT!! he'll summon a pit fiend, if you do, let him summon it bu t run back to the entrance, there's a good chance of the mage killing the pit fiend (since the pit fiend will attack her). I was able to do this around level 9/10, but only with a multiplayer created party. In single player, I would only attempt this battle at at least lvl 13/14. Good Luck.

[IMG] To answer one question - "isn't there an auto-save before you enter" - No, there isn't.

To the other comment "At that level you could just start over since you only have a few hours in" ???? WHAT? Don't you start at level 6? and I'm at level 11... only a few hours? what are YOU smoking?
or did you import in at level 10? Cheater!!

    @ Spoogemonkey

I wasn't the one who wrote it initially, but all created characters start higher than level 6. In fact, if you import from BGI (with TotSC) you could import a theif, bard or druid (if single classed) with 161,000 XP, which would be level 10. So, it is possible to start with a level 10 character without cheating. Mages and specialists can reach level 9, and all others (fighters, paladins, rangers and clerics) can all reach level 8.

Even if you start the game with a character you created, who only has 89,000 XP, that still always works out to at least 7, and higher in many cases.

There may not be an autosave before you enter the house, but there is definitely one before you enter the Bridge district. Try that autosave -- you may have to replay a few things (the Tanner, the 5 flagons stuff with the actors, one of your meetings with Anarg, Neb) but it'll be better than starting at the Promenade!

There may not be an autosave before entering that room, but shouldn't you have an autosave for entering the Bridge District itself? Surely you didn't get all the way to level 11 in just that area...do you have the autosave option turned off or something?

Just cheat yourself out with CLUA and go back later. That's no more cheating that restarting from an old save. You haven't done anything in there yet, so just "pretend" you never found the place and come back during chapter six when you can put the smack down on some Twisted Goon ass. Or...continue Groundhog Day. Up to you, Phil Connors.

[edit - yeah, Keldin beat me to that]

If you can set traps then you can use the old tried and true "set the maximum amount and then lure the enemies in one or two at a time, repeat" method to help even the odds. Otherwise you will probably have to cheat or restart.

I refuse to believe there isn't a way to win this thing. You're 11th level I see. Who is in your party though? What equipment do you have? What spells do you have? What scrolls?

Given the amazing feats people have pulled off when they shouldn't have in this game I am convinced you can win that fight without resorting to something silly like a killsword.
