Damn you, Tal! I do NOT have time for this right now! :p

On the other hand, maybe just a few more moves...

Wow. Blast from the past. Is the original Zork online anywhere?

How about the original Adventure (you are in a maze of twisty little passages all alike . . .)?

Ah, the memories... Thinking of Hitchhiker the game instantly reminds me of Bureaucracy... another game Douglas Adams wrote for Infocom. Now THAT was one nast game! Loved it though. Too bad it didn't sell at the time.

@dmc: I remember Activision distributing the Zork trilogy freely on the Internet, many years ago. But that was a LONG time ago...

I also found Adventure once somewhere. Couldn't complete it without a walkthrough though :(

I don't know how legal this is, but considering the game is 25 years old, and the company itself was distributing them... if you're really interested, I still have the files Activision had for download, and I can send them to you. PM me if you're still interested.

Oh, and I can throw in Adventure as an extra :D

I'm pretty sure they made Zork freeware, so it should be legal anyways :)

Babel fish is still the hardest puzzle in history.

All old Zork games have been made freeware ages ago, but the official site is apparently no longer around. Just about every abandonware site will have them, though.

Or you could play them online here

Apart from that, there are many other IF (Interactive Fiction. It's what Textadventures are called nowadays) games at iFiction.org.

Also, the Interactive Fiction community is still alive, and there are still new games produced every year. I recommend "Worlds Apart".

For many good fanmade games, I recommend the Interactive Fiction Archive

You'll need the IF Interpreters. There are several: Adrift, Win Frotz 2000 (for Infocom games), Win Glulxe, TADS, HUGO, and some others. The IF Archive tells you which one you will need for a game, and where to get it.

Here is A Beginner's Guide to playing Interqactive Fiction (it contains the link for downloading "Worlds Apart", and several other good games.

There are even some new commercial Textadventures/Interactive Fiction games produced these. Like recently Future Boy! from Canada.

Here's a great abandonware site Abandonia
There's Zork 1 & 2 and Return to Zork available to download.

It isn't better than Home of the Underdogs...but i'm having problems downloading from there and with this site i don't

Gah, I never liked these type of games. The wording I used was never the correct one for the game. Just this time I tried 10 times out of 19 before I failed to just feel around for the light switch and turn it on. Then I got a tip saying "try turning on the light".

So next time out instead of switching, putting or pushing I said "turn on light" and he actually got it done. I dislike failing not because I didn't know what to do, but because the playability just sucks. ;)
