I was so pleased that they released the Icewind Dale soundtrack on CD! I was even able to download the Torment soundtrack online. I also have the BG1 soundtrack, but, hey, let's face it, the BG2 soundtrack was far superior, but unfortunately plans for a CD release were canceled at the last minute due. :( Is it possible to somehow extract (and, if neccesary, convert) the music files from BG2 so I can create my own BG2 sountrack CD? :)

I see that you were so pleased that you posted this in three different threads. Please don't do that again.

You could have done a search of the boards and come up with this thread .
Please take good note of Tal comment on the issue (so that he won't rip me off for pulling this out). :D

    Okay, sorry, my bad. HOWEVER...

...that still doesn't answer my question -- or is it "illegal" even to ask?

Is it possible to somehow extract (and, if neccesary, convert) the music files from BG2 so I can create my own BG2 sountrack CD? (Not for posting online, but for my own personal use.) And if so, how?

(quote taken from the linked thread...).

Sorry, but I just have to ask: did you even bothered going through the thread ?

My guess is: if you bought the game it is not illegal to burn a CD for your own use. But I am not sure if this is right, please correct me otherwise.

Sorry, but I just have to ask: did you even bother reading my message? ;)

My conversion question has been answered; my extraction question has not.

I've done a full install and in the 'music' folder there are lots of ACM files. I imagine you get this acm2wav program and encode them- no extraction necessary.

I think you've missed something.. The music doesn't need to be extracted, just converted (any regular burning application can burn .wav files to a cd). I guess that was what Kralizek were pointing out.

I think - and only think - that you're right. Its kinda like you just have the music in another format than .acm and on a cd instead of on your harddrive.

From the looks of it, the files on my hard disk are being copied as they come up during play, which would mean that I would still need to extract the rest from the game disks. Also, the acm2wav converter doesn't seem to do anything, and there was no readme included with it. :(

Oh, yes it does. You just don't know how to use it. And I think I'm too tired to explain...

Download the BG2 music score from interplay. Check their forum and there's a sticky topic right at the top.

Eh? There actually is one with it (or at least was when I downloaded it). It just isn't very hmm... detailed. You have to use your brains. I think you can handle that? ;)

Well, there is NO readme in mine -- didn't I already say that? Plus, I already said that the program itself does not appear to do anything. So can the condescension already!

THANK YOU, for Ghreyfain, for actually trying (and succesfully) to actually HELP, as opposed to just putting someone else down to make yourself appear taller....

Ok, I'm sorry. I felt little evil... (Had to play my character! Chaotic Evil Half-Elf Ranger...) In any case, I'm glad you found help already. (Assuming you found) :)

But if this is helping anymore (it probably won't if you already know how to use it), the readme says something like this, IIRC: Copy the files you want to convert to the folder where acm2wav.exe is. Use acm2wav in dos and type "acm2wav filename.acm" and press enter, or something like that. I do it like this: C:bad:Acm2wav>acm2wav theme.acm *enter*

    Thank you, I'm going home.

How dare you apologize -- I was counting on you to start a flame war! ;)

It turns out that Interplay has the BG2 soundtrack in MP3 form in its download section. They just posted it there after they messed up on including it with the new SoA/ToB bundle. Unfortunately, the sound quality of the MP3s is that of a portable cassette recorder taping the sound off of an old television. So it looks like I still have to figure out how to extract the files, what the titles are, and then convert them, etc.

I don't know where you're downloading the file from, but the acm2wav on SP certainly has a readme, I wrote it myself.

Not sure where I got the original, probably from the TeamBG website.... Will try yours.

    GREAT! A readme! :D THANKS!

Now, back to my other question: what about extracting the acm files from the SoA and ToB cds?

Just do a full install of everything and you'll get all the music on your HD so you can play around with it.
