[IMG] Yeah! I have bonus CD installed, but I never used them officially, and for benefit it just cleared my curiosity and ignorance.

Imho the bonus items are overpowered, surely will unbalance the game. Like robe of Vecna, the spell is already cast out, but my sorcerer is still there muttering his holy words. something like this is definately inconsistency and disharmony!

Besides, BG2 has offered so many powerful and cool items of which more exquisite abilities you might have not even dug out and need to be explored...:)

    Get you adverture more challenging!

Here I'm just going to remove it from my BG2 folder once and for all!:D

So, what's your opinion and action?

  2. I think it isn't really a big deal wether you have it or not. People like me who are trying to find new things in BG would certainly appreciate it. The items _are_ overpowered but if you've gone through the game countless times before, does it really matter..?

I agree! My Fighter "challenge" with 9 strenght and 6 in the rest became immortal, due to two items from the bonus CD. Vhailors helmet and sling of Everad +5 (I still can't spell it. heh).

With Vhailors helmet I could drink a potion of mind focusing. Apply scrolls of protection Vs. Magic/undead/restoration in his quickitem. Use Vhailors helmet and make the double use the scrolls. With the sling +5 I could hit every creature in the game with one weapon. Very boring. I am considering to do any challenge without the bonus items from now on.

But there are other items in the real game that are equally powerfull and exquisite like ring of rregeneration, Carsomyr, cloak of mirroring, boots of speed etc, some would argue with you. And let them. Who are we to judge what people use on their PC. As long as everyone agrees that putting more powerfull items into the game will make it easier.

If you think it's too easy turn up the difficulty level, if that is no longer possible find yourself a new challenge, but I think everyone should think for themselves which items they do and do not like. Overpowered or not all depends on how good YOU are. If you don't know how to play the game and keep dying you might disagree

[IMG] Bonus CD? Bonus CD? Where do I get the bonus CD? Please, please tell me!

  6. Laksol, when you have the disgustingly high-priced robe, and you cast spells, once the spell is in effect, you don't have to watch your sorcerer mutter away bad latin and have his hands revolve around a glowing ball of red/yellow/blue energy.

IMHO, the bonus CD (when you bought BG2 really early, right? If not, you can download the bonus merchants at SP), the weapons are not overpowered (possibly asides from the Robe of Vecna). They are merely only somewaht useful, and very expensive (each one costs from 10000 to 30000 gp :mommy: )

For example, the Staff of Arundel gives 5th and 6th extra druid spells, and 10% fire/cold resistance. Nice, but nothing compared to, say, the Staff of the Magi. AND this staff costs quite a steep price.
There are also some weapons that have weird, useful but weird, effects.
The Axe of H'rothgar (+3 IIRC)(sp?) gives +1 charisma and +1 wisdom. Not too useful if you give it to a certain crazy, sullen, axe-flinging, dwarf.
The Harp of Pandemonium costs about 15000 gp, and all it does is have the ability to knock back everyone but the user, who must be a bard, away. Not particulary useful, and expensive.

The only bonus item that is overpowered is the RoV
Other items are nice & magical, but expensive. :)

[IMG] Buying from the extra imported merchants just gets me an unnatural and unfavorable sense, I appreciate something powerful from hard fightings or monsters...Weird, I think.

I have often used shadow keeper to upgrade monsters hp and strentghd to higher than they are.. It fun, cuase than I can legitamately upgrade their treashure, with out hurting the balance.
The character I am using right now is a Vampire I created on my own, and rather powerful, so I need to upgrade the vilians and monsters!!!

true, some bonus items are wayyyy overpriced, but I don't really think they unbalance the game that much. Take Da'akon's Zerth blade for example, its not much good unless you just happened to have a kensai dualed mage, a lot of other stuff are like that too... I don't think anyone is going to create a kensai/mage if they didn't already have one simply for the zerth blade...

btw, rep affects prices of bonus items too! I bought my zerth blade for less than 10k!

    [IMG] Actualy its
    • Kensi\Mage
    • Any other fighter kit or plain fighter\Mage
    • Mage\Thief
And on the fact you have to pay through the nose for them, money is an almost infinate resourse in BG2. So that is no problem.

  12. Does Dak'kon Zerth Blade work for a Bard, Ranger, or Pally?
