pplr: Do you have tutu installed as well? BGT and tutu use the BG2 game engine (which doesn't allow you to dual to a specialist).

probably not, I have an early version (generally unmoded) of BG1 and actually had to look up "tutu" when trying to figure out what you were talking about.

But I may if my understanding of "tutu" is bad enough that I don't realize I have it.

    Hi Coffinworm,

My girlfriend introduced me to BG1&2, and I had the same complaints about the game from the word go. The battles are punishing when you dont know what's up ahead. But eventually I beat the hard difficulty by employing some of these tactics:

You need to scout ahead: find out whats in front. Then send in cannonfodder, like a summon monster I, to see what kind of (special) attacks the enemies have in store. Prepare for those.

You need a way to cope with unexpected amsuhes, like the planar prison: Two mages, one with haste and one with slow: the rate at which you hit the enemy will be x4 in youre favor that way. Youre cleric always has to have a sanctuary ready. That way she can walk stright out of danger and start tipping the balance from a safe spot. Make sure youre mages are stoneskinned 100% of the time.

Then there is the kind of amush like the party in the sewers. They cast true sight and then a power symbol stun and youre basically sitting ducks. Always carry spells that remove stun or charm. Keep those mages/clerics in the back or else you cant cast those. Use web and grease to hold back onrushing hordes. Spiderspawn is an excellent combo with web.

Dont go toe to toe: pick off enemies one by one. Youre strongest fighters should melee the weakest enemies: dont you hate it when the game attacks youre mage in pijama's with a pitfiend? Let the magic casters deal with the big guys from a safe distance.

And the best tip that saved my ass the most times: RUN AWAY!!!
