Could someone please give me some advice on party formations?

Do you use the "Straight Line", the "Circle" or the "Double Row"...et al

My main character is a fighter with grand mastery in axes and an 18/00 St. (I wanted a Bili The Axe type character)I was told thqat the fighter was the best choice for a new player...no kits!

Trouble is, the players that I use for archery tend to get stuck behind walls and such (De'Arnise Hold) making it a royal pain when a battle commences.

So...what formations tend to work for you guys? (and gals!)

    Thanks in advance!

Most of the time I use the standard 3 x 3 two line formation but if I'm going down a narrow hall, I'll use the scrunched up formation as follows:
    _X
    X
    _X
    X
    _X
    X

But I find this formation too much trouble and usually go back to the standard two lines.

I was switch between formations depending on the situation. If i go on a dungeon crawl that requires narrow passages and whatnot i will use the straight line or follow formation. However on a standard attack formation i will use this one

    __x
    __x
    __x

i usually have three melee and 3 spellcasters. I dont like range weapons much and thats usually why. With the formation above the melee fighters are out front and the spell casters are protected. It works great for me. Sometimes i will use this formation also

    xxx
    xxx

it is basically the same idea so yeah, either one is good i fine.

I always with no exception use this formation:
    _X
    X
    _X
    X
    _X
    X
    For me it works anytime.

I also use that formation that make them more "together"

But i don't get that formation with arrows, why would someone use that one??? They all spread in a looong line with that one.

Btw. Can you somehow permanently save rotated formation (right click rotation)?

  6. I just use the generic 2x3 formation like this:
    XX
    XX
    XX

But my latest party is 4 people, so I just arrange them in a square.

I really don't mind formations at all. When a battle comes, I just move 'em around (Fighters in front, mages in back, etc.)

    I use a weird formation
    *
    * *
    * * *
this formation centers your caharacter back middle allowing my spellcaster some good protection. The neat thing about this group is that when you use 3 characters it looks like this
    *
    *
    *
With the your front person in the middle. So if you have your mage at the front because you want him(her) to do the talking this works perfect.

In wide spaces I use the 3x2 formation:
    xxx
    xxx

In wide corridoors I use 2x3:
    xx
    xx
    xx

And in narrow corridoors I use the scrunched up 2x3:
    x
    _x
    x
    _x
    x
    _x

Sometimes, if people are getting blocked, I use the "follow the leader" formation, which is just shown as an arrow.
I only use it until the party is through the difficult bit then I revert to one of the other formations.

Oh yes, if I'm searching a large outdoor area I use the wide 6x1 formation:
    xxxxxx
This allows the party to scout a large area a bit faster.
