I just picked up a copy of NWN2 so I could try Zehir, which hasn't arrived yet. I'm considering running through the OC....maybe.

I've read about the OC's moronic rest system, the 5-second kneel down thing. Aren't there any mods that change that, or do the expansions, which reportedly have more sensible rest options add anything new in the resting department to the OC?

I think I'd enjoy even a lackluster campaign much more if bg2 style resting was in place. The kneel-down thing totally subverts DnD's spell system, I mean - if you can rest anywhere without using any game-time they might as well just give you unlimited spells and abilities and be done with it.

I agree, it's a lame feature. I personally just use the honor system, though. I don't rest until my caster's spells have run down to next to nothing. I'm so used to casting sparingly from my years playing the BG series that I don't know how to play any other way.

I think you'll enjoy the OC, I found it to be great fun. Not the best I've ever played, but definitely worth your time.

Also - I believe the resting feature does indeed advance the game time by 8 hours (or however long you decide to rest for - hours or days if you want). It's only 5 seconds to the player.

The oc's rest system is quite stupid, but is limited to the OC, In motb, you can still rest most places, but many of them have random encounters, much like BG and in SoZ the resting options are a bit more limited.

OC rest does indeed make casters quite overpowered, it is somewhat made up for in MoTB where resting is limited and you have to watch your spirit meter. that said, if you like I and others limits your rest to only when then dungeon is cleared etc. it is not that bad. and the OC is an okay campaign. and MoTb is great story-wise and SoZ really is my favorite so far, although it's story is somewhat lacking.

Yeah I've read plenty about MOTB, but its Zehir that really convinced me to get into the series, not in small part because of its reportedly reasonable rest and death systems.

I started the OC, and started having a much better time with it when I switched off party AI....seems odd I have to disable their behaviors completely just to get them to stop following me around everywhere like cretins, but there you go. The camera is not intuitive but its ok......

One pet peeve from NWN that I completely forgot about is the aggressive corpse fade. It really irks me when developers think they can rob me of my corpses and replace them with neat little lootable sacks. I mean, they should put that on a slider so you can tell the game to leave as many corpses as your system can handle and dynamically remove them as needed. I can't wait to kill my first dragon and have it fade into a little sack.

The Witcher was a major offender as well, turn your back on that corpse and POOF it turns into a ribcage sitting in what looks like a pile of strawberry jam. Even if the enemy was a creature that didn't have a ribcage like a killer plant or ghost or something.

Made for awesomeness in situations where you needed quest-critical loot from a specific enemy who attacked you with a mob. 'Cause now you get to click on EVERY SINGLE RIBCAGE to find what you need. As a bonus feature the ribcages would all stack and clip into one another, and all were labeled 'remains.'
Would it've been too much trouble to have the important cage labeled ' Mr. X's remains ' ?

Too cool let me tell you.

Maybe not totally off topic since Witcher was based on NWN1's engine.......

    ok I'm stretching.

The witcher rocked, I wished obsidian had used ribcages instead of bags ;) the again obsidian made a character called ribsmasher, who can't stop laughing.
