I liked the ending of Might & Magic. You didn't get an end movie or on the old NES game (didn't play the other versions), but it still felt great how the story ended. If a game is good enough to soak you in it's more important how it ends than if you get a high quality end movie or not.

I thought the Light ending was not bad actually. The plot points that are revealed tie in very nicely with the gateways from MM1 and MM2 (and also HOMM1). I think that New World planned on having what you learn from the Light ending being true but the actual events of the sequels would follow from the Dark ending. But yeah, some of the fans complained...

I liked Prey's ending as well. And even though there is no talk of a sequel yet the hook at the end still works, simply as Tommy going on more adventures.

Deus Ex: Invisible War...cannot even compare to the original, and besides, I kind of figured out right near the start that not only were the coffee joints really the same company, but also both of the political sides were the same...and so the endings were predictable, and annoying...

Someone above mentioned Half Life 2 and I fully agree with the sentiment. When I purchase the game I expect to get a story with a proper ending and not have it end at some idiotic "To be continued" cliffhanger. Other than that there are not that many endings that actually annoy me too much, there are plenty of endings that have felt indifferent though and that includes most games including some otherwise very good games.

As for games with good endings you just have to look at most games with a good story. Mostly adventure games. Grim Fandango has a magnificent well written ending that I really liked. Planescape Torment also has one of the best endings I've seen.

You do make a good point about the ties with Secrets of The Inner Sanctum and Gates to another world... but frankly, that same ending pissed me off. A big gate, go wherever you want... WHAT THE [CENSORED]! No killing, no violence, no anarchy? At least with the Dark ending, Kastore rebuilds the forge, duplicates blasters and utterly dominates the world.

Then, the next game can feature the sickening, beaten to death find-the-bad-guy-and-slaughter-him-like-a-dog-before-his-plan-comes-to-fruition plot (Now please excuse me while I go vomit). MM6 was an exception to that seeing as the "bad guys" were devils. Bonus points to MM6 for the ending when destroying the Reactor Core without the Ritual of the Void -- that was freaking sweet! Stupid humans go BOOM!

I love the ending of Monkey Island 2 actually. I'm not sure I really understand what happened (I have a theory, but it's a little far-fetched) but I felt it was still a good end.

The ending of Curse of Monkey Island, on the other hand, was most definitely the worst in the series. All 2 seconds or so of it.

I hated the ending of the new Prince of Persia.

    *SPOILER AHEAD*

You spend the whole game imprisoning your enemy, and in the end, you are forced to release it, anyhow. I know it's to leave some space for a sequel, but c'mon, I'm supposed to be a bit satisfied after completing a game. Now it felt like I had achieved nothing at all.

    I really liked Half-Life 2's ending.
"Yes, good job. Now go to sleep. Until I need you to kill something again. Tough luck about your friend Alex"

    Awesome

I thought the Arcanum ending was awful.

"Everything we've told you up to this point is a lie! The real boss is through that door."

The Fallout 3: Broken Steel ending was crap too. Other than stopping you playing anymore, I quite liked the main game's ending.

But in Broken Steel, there's no neutral ending. I played the whole game as neutral and with one ending I went straight up to Good, and with the other went straight down to Evil. Also, there's no build-up to the betrayal ending - just one option that completely goes against everything you've been doing up to that point - if you really prefer the Enclave over the Brotherhood, you wouldn't do any of the preceding quests anyway. It's not like you get paid either way. Also annoyed that I was forced to be a member of the Brotherhood - never liked them, especially in F3. Did enjoy telling Sarah Lyons to shove it when she offered to let me into her little organisation, but apparently that doesn't matter in the expansion.

The main campaign ending in Fallout 3 made me a bit angry.
