Hi there, I'm amassing quite a lot of gold. Have over 30,000 now (not even done the bandit camps or been to cloakwood yet), but shops seem to have very few items worth buying in them.

What should I do will all this money?

FYI I have the iiItems mod installed, as well as the extra shop from song and silence (though I don't think I've come across anything either mod has added yet, nor do I know where to find them).

    Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know about what is added for the mods but good items to purchase in the vanilla game are:

Have a set of ankheg plate made (you can find one, but having two is better).
    Shadow Armor
    Cloak of Displacement
Robe of the Good Arch-Magi (if you have a good mage)

Magic weapons are usually a good investment but most you can get by looting (although everyone should have a magic weapon as early in the game as possible). A few notable exceptions are:

Short Bow +1 (this is the only magic short bow in the game)
    Light Crossbow of Speed
    Sling +1

The other things to spend money on are, of course, scrolls and potions.

I've only listed things you can get before Baldur's Gate -- there are more in the city itself.

There are many inns in Beregost. Try all of the fifferent beers! After your characters are nice and loaded, THEN go out adventuring!

    Not true.

The Eagle Bow is a short bow, which you get from Marek in Baldur's Gate.

This is getting silly now. I have over 40,000 gold and nothing to spend it on.

I don't know about the mods either, but T2Bruno's suggestions were good. I would also add that the Dagger of Venom can be very dangerous if you have a character that can use it. If you've loads of protective gear, the Full Plate may be better than Anheg Plate as it is not magical. Magic ammunition can be useful- speeds things up and gives you something to spend gold on. Other than that, High Hedge has a couple of expensive bits that you may find appealing.

Regardless, it is entirely normal to have more gold than you need, especially if you do a lot of side missions.

Buying invisibility potions will allow the party's bard or thief to backstab even if they don't have any points in stealth. Buy ALL the potions of mirroed eyes you can, as I think you can only get 5 from stores in the unmodded game. You will want to hoard them until you finish Durlag's and return to Urgoth's Beard. Using them is one of the few defenses against the demon's gaze attack. You will want to have 6 of them to drink as soon as you face the demon.

When a wand is down to one charge, sell it to a store, then buy it back. You'll pay a steep price, but the wand will be fully recharged. This costs thousands of GP, but it's what I wind up spending my GP on mid-way through the game. Mostly on the Wand of Fireballs. That wand is extremely powerful in BG1. I don't play Tutu myself, but I assume the wand of paralyzation works properly in Tutu. That's another one to spend money recharging. As is the wand of sleep. I believe you can purchase one from High Hedge before entering Baldur's Gate.

Any more advise depends on your party composition and to a lessor extent what style of play you have and what proficiencies you have chosen. Buying the dagger of venom is useless if nobody took the dagger (small blades if you are NOT using tutu) proficiency.

Good advice here from Slick, although:

Well, duh. Obviously it is only a good weapon if you have someone capable of using it. It was a general recommendation for a weapon that appears to be somewhat underused, not instructions to pick it up regardless of who's in the party.

I should add that if you use the Necklace of Missiles, the Shield Amulet, or the Ring of Animal Friendship (quite useful in BG1, especially early on), you can use the same recharging trick as the wands. It works for any limited-charge item, although those are the only three BG1 items I can think of off-hand unless you count Algernon's Cloak and the Nymph Cloak. Given that in BG1 they have virtually unlimited charges, I don't count them. I think an item or two from High Hedge also has charges, but I never use them save for the Robes of the Archmagi. It's a GP drain, but if you find them useful it's worth it. Since you have cash to spare...
