Hello, I am new here so please bear with me. I am trying to play Icewind Dale on my laptop with Vista Home Premium and while the graphics are fine, when I try to quicksave I get an error although it saves correctly through the options menu. Also when I try to load a game it brings me back to the beginning of the game. Is anyone else having this problem or knows how to fix it?

Almost forgot, I am running Icewind Dale with the Heart of Winter addon.

    Thank you!

Do you have the official patch or ToTL installed?

I do not have Trials of The Luremaster installed. I guess I will try that and hope it works, I really want to start playing before the summer is over!

I haven't tried installing it on Vista as I have a perfectly functional Windows98SE computer that I use to play the IE games.

However, a couple suggestions to try. Number one, try setting IDMain.exe to run in compatibility mode. Try both "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" and "Windows 95", as the minimum requirements for the program indicate it runs under Win95.

To do that, find the program file and click properties, then click the "compatibility" tab. Check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:". From the pop-up menu, pick the program.

click on the box "Show settings for all users" and repeat the process after confirming with UAC.

If setting it to WIn95 doesn't work, try using "Run this program as an administrator". If it solves the problem, again, use the "show settings for all users" and set it so that it applies for everybody.

Those are general bits of advice. I'll probably get around to trying IWD on the Vista computer evntually in order to play Trials of the Luremaster without the attack sound bug.

Did you install it on your main hard drive? Vista is a pain with authorizations so the best way to deal with it is not to put it on system drives.

Recent games usually put saves in Documents\My Games (or something like this), IWD2 has its own save folder and it looks like those issues you have result from Vista not liking saving on C: drive.

By the way, when not using the main hard drive you don't have to deal with compatibility files (saves and screenshots won't be hidden).
