Why are there so little character built-in portraits in the game?
And there are almost only NPC portraits. And some NPC portraits grom BG1.
1st. I think these NPC portraits are used by NPCs already and we dont want to see 2 imoens or 2 minscs SO these portraits must be excluded from characters portrait list in the beginning.
2nd. If they are excluded only 4 or 5 portraits would be left. Very poor choice i'd say. Not even a single portrait for every class!!!! Not to mention kits and multiclases.

Game who takes 4 cd (2.5 bg) saves space on characters portraits, i dont understand?

Search for custom character portraits on the web. You can get a lump of them here at Sorcerer's Place at once too. Check the links section for other sites too. Or make your own!

How can we possibly know why? Isn't that a question you would need to ask the developers? My guess is that they know there are people out there (such as you) who would not be satisfied no matter how many portraits they provided. So, instead of wasting their time and money paying their artists to draw thousands of portraits, they put them to work on more important artwork in the game and allow the player to customize their portrait in any way they want.

[IMG] I took the ports and voices from IWD for BG2.
they seem to work good, I found that all the nice art and tons more voices adds a litle to my camp.

Kooky? I think the artists did a great job. I like all the portraits so much I have that NPC portrait wallpaper/desktop theme you can get here. I've seen the Icewind Dale portraits too and they are good, but I wouldn't say that the BG2 ones are kooky.

BG2 portraits are good, better that IWD i think.
And if u possess even the smallest feeling of taste, you should want all portraits draw in one style. Ant thats where the problem begins.
So, for portrait to qualify for the BG2 character portrait it must
1st be face protrait only, no body.
    2nd be in colors
    3rd be very detailed
4th be with no complex things in background
5th fit your characters class, race, gender etc.
I filtered more than 2 hundred portraits these 2 days, found ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING!

I agree the standard found in BG-series is difficult to find elsewhere.
Except for a few armored knights and some mages and Dwarves I had a hard time finding proper pictures.
I find pictures of Hollywood actors/actresses especially dreadfull, :D

Hey, come on! Find something else to complain about. I mean, who really cares about char. portraits ( apart from you that is ;) ). I dunno about you but I barely look the portrait.

On my first time through, I used that Half-Orc picture, cause al the others were of NPC's. Now, is there someone in the game that uses this picture? I didn't believe so, but because I used it, maybe he had another picture...
Now I just have one of the pics of an NPC of BG. That elven Ranger, forgot his name and no, it isn't Coran. I hated that guy...!

[IMG] i myself while playing BG1 searched and searched for a redheaded elven mage...

Took me a long time and hundreds of sites later...

Finally found the perfect picture. I dont know about you but i sure like my portrait to resemble the character i am roleplaying. Something the portraits provided with the game came no where near doing!

I have to agree with the complaint here. They went and redid portraits from BG1, so you get two slightly different portraits of Minsc for example, and then have no usable portraits for the Monk for example. I've wound up using the Xan portrait from BG1 twice, and have trouble telling those save games apart when scrolling through. I'm not even sure they have all the BG1 portraits, and those were already on hand.

Obviously, they weren't going to please everybody. But, I think this is a case where they took not being able to please everyone, and decided they could do a poor job. They somehow managed to get all the portraits in BG1 done, and they even got to reuse those here, but somehow they could only get 10 or so new ones done. Relying on the web to do your work for you is a bit iffy in my book.

I find it VERY satisfactory to have resemblence between my character in my imagination and his game-portrait.
My Cowled wuzzard team wouldn't be as fun to play if I hadn't found numerous pictures of Mages on the net. Arie as a Necromancer?? nahhh I just Can't play the role then
