Ok, basically, I'm wondering if you can or cannot rescue Montaron, instead of the harper girl when you accept Xzar's Quest. If so, how?

If you have The Darkest Day installed, Xzar will resurrect Montaron (or transform him from the bird into his old self) and then you can have the two of them join the party as NPCs. But there's no way of rescuing Montaron in the original game.

You cannot get Montaron in BG2. There might be a mod somewhere (I know there's one for Xzar), though I don not know.

You find Montaron in the steel bird form same as always. Take him outside to Xzar who will resurrect him. After that, the two can join the party as NPCs. I can't remember if the Harper assassin shows up or not to kill Xzar but she shouldn't be too much trouble if she is.

I kept them both in the party for a while afterwards but never noticed any differences. They don't seem to have any quests or dialogue.

Montaron's body? Where'd you find that? I've found the bird he's been transformed into but never his body.

Well... I was waiting for Anomen's to say another sweet talk(damned timer) and I had nothing to do, so decided to go into Harper hold and open up all the chest that I couldnt open up before(needed better thief) and in one of them, there was Monatron's body.(Eek! I hope that wasn't a bug)

If you return to the Harper's hold a while later in the game, during the Harper's quest, Montaron is located in one of the chests on the second floor. I would have liked it if you could then resurrect him seeing as you now have his body, but that's not possible without a MOD :(

So the Harpers killed him and stuffed him into a chest? Doesn't seem like a very nice thing for the Harpers to do.

Actually it's a pity you can't either bring him back to life or maybe take his body to a temple and get his sins absolved (as with Yoshimo).

[IMG] Yeah, they can be as nasty as the evil people and orginizations they fight. I guess they feel the ends justifies the means.

Still not a very nice end for poor ol' Montaron. I had him with me through most of BG1 once and would have at least liked the opportunity to see a bit more of him. :( :( :(
