Are they any good. In BG2 my friend had an awesome paladin, so I was thinking of making one in BG this time around and after I finish the game, take him over to BG2. What do you guys think about this? Any info on the REAL advantages/disadvantages of having a pally that you guys have, post up here if you don't mind.
    THANKS

There aren't any kits in BG1 but a paladin works great even there. It gets his lay on hands ability, protection from evil and all other abilities that are mean for a normal paladin. I believe he doesn't get any spells in BG1 but it's not like you'd desperately need those 1 lvl spells anyway. Try it. It's defenitely worth it. :thumb:

You can use the Carsomyr +5 :) , the best twohanded sword in the game, you can cast a few priest spells, and you can... bla bla bla. In short: a Paladin is a very good choice

I think he was talking about the first BG Frostmage. Or perhaps did you mean all together Legolasdx?

[IMG] Carsomyr? Isn' that a BG2 weapon?

Anyway I completed the game with my Paladin, Anmin, the good thing was that in BG1 he liked Jaheira - that simply got better in BG2 ;)

I have finished BGI with a paladin. It is quite comparable with a fighter. Lay on hands helps a bit, and the detect evil ability is much more powerful than in BGII. It can give you some idea about what is lurking in the area around you :) .
Anyway - no big problems playing a paladin.

THANK YOU MUCH. I already knew that a paladin was a force to be reckoned with in BG2. I watched my friend take on almost the whole game. But after hearing this, time to start over again on BG1. Thanks guys.

Do you know that the Protection from Evil can be used multiple on your char. You can kill Sarevok in melee, if you make -23 AC. (II did not use it, because I play with only Wizards and a Fighter in BG1. Otherwise, it is near to the cheat )

The best thing about a Paladin at the beginning is that it has such high stat defaults. You can make some really kickass characters out of a Paladin.

    @ Baronius
Thanks! I finally killed Sarevok with that Protection from Evil trick. :)

hmm. i completed bg1 with a paladin, but i must say i was not very convinced. he is an average fighter and that little bit low level clericing doesn´t pay its price in my opinion.

i think i´ll make a second run with a fighter that will dual later on. after all 5 weapon points DO have some effect ;)

I finished with a paladin my very first time and I liked it. Didn't love it though. Turn undead certainly helps when two or even three characters have it turned one for the larger fights with undead. lay on hands and protection from evil are some of the best spells ever. A high level lay on hands is glorious, but when you've got 5 of them that's good stuff. It's nice there are no armor restrctions when casting spells, so he's a decent character. I like a multi or dual-classed character a little better, but exploring is what this game is all about!
