    [IMG] I just started playing Baldur's Gate for the first time! I have had it forever, but haven't had time to play. That is all about to change, and I can't wait to be immersed in the series hailed as one of the best CRPG's ever! I have two questions for all of you experts. One, will the ring of Wizardry I have from the forest near the Friendly Arm Inn disappear if I apply the patch AFTER it is already in my inventory? Two, how much of a difference does charisma really make for purchases? Is Imoens hihg enough, or do I need my main character to have high charisma?

    Oh, and does anyone know if there has been any talk of a complete set with all of the games in the series along the lines of the Diablo Battle Chest?

    TIA!

    [IMG] Nope, the ring will stay if you find it before the patch. Charisma doesn't make that much of a difference, I never even bothered to have the char with the highest do the shopping. You'll have enough gold later on. Anyway, stats for it are in the back of the manual.

    No complete set planned yet, though it'll probably be done sooner or later. For now you can only buy BG1+ToTSC bundled. In USA, the BG2+ToB pack hasn't even been released yet, so it'll take a while before all 4 will be packed together. (If ever.)

    Thanks!

    OK, I am making a human fighter (male for BG2 romances) & plan to Dual Class him to a specialist mage (Invoker) at 5th (16k-XP), so he can reach 9th as a mage w/out ToTSC. I want to make a char I can take all the way through the entire series...

    Do you think these stats are good enough? Or should I keep rolling? (92 total).

    STR = 18/20
    DEX = 18
    CON = 18
    INT = 18 (for Dual to Invoker)
    WIS = 10
    CHA = 10

    I have heard of people getting 95-98 pts. but I'm not sure if I will live that long! ;) His exceptional strength kind of bites, but I figure he'll only be a front-line fighter for a little while...

    Listen, your stats are higher than those of any character I ever finished the game with.
    If you like rolling so much sure go ahead, but you might as well cheat 10 tomes in through the console.
    Don't worry about the strength. That will become 19 anyway.

    Wow! You must have rolled for a very long time to get such a high total number! :eek: I would have lowered the INT, raised the CHR and made a Paladin. But I understand that you want to dual class later. Enjoy the game.

    [IMG] Good rolling. My best so far has been

    STR = 18/?(45 i think)
    DEX = 18
    CON = 18
    INT = 11
    WIS = 11
    CHA = 11
    These were for a fighter/thief.
    Although, i forgot to take the scroll you get in naskel mines to the bloke outside the temple in neaskel to prove i had cleared the mines. Then i went back to get it but it was gone.
    Have been trying to roll stats like these ever since so i could restart my game but i just cant, so i guess they must be pretty good.

    No/Yes. Yes. No.

    At the start of the game CHA really doesn't mean much, but later when you're buying expensive magical stuff then it does make a difference (at least a little one). The way to use CHA for buying stuff is to make whoever has the highest CHA the leader of your party (the top face), just click and drag. I tested this once, while shoping in Beregost I bought everything with my PC, then reloaded and bought it all with Imoen, and I saved maybe 3 or 4 thousand. But at that point in the game that little amount of money didn't make a difference. So yes, things are cheaper with higher CHA.

    I used Imoen's CHA for half the game, until I was able to find someone higher.

    No. Just use Imoen.

    [IMG] Wow! Thanks for all of the helpful replies! I though those scores would probably do the trick, but wanted to make sure. Surprisingly, I didn't have to roll that long. Beginner's luck, I guess! ;)

    For those of you who have played all of the expansions and sequels, what do you think about the advantages disadvantages of Fighter dualled to Mage, vs. Ranger dualled to Cleric in the long run? Can dual class characters take kits when imported to BG II?

    Thanks again for all the help!

    If you plan on taking the character to SoA or even ToB, then my advice is don't dual class.
    You're primary class will be of far to low level to even matter in the sequels

    Ring of wizardry? Gah? where's that? I never found such a thing, it should come in handy when I choose to dual imoen to a mage!

    Erm... What's the XP cap, again?

    Charisma does seem to make a pretty big bonus. When I got Algernon's cloak, raising my main character's charisma from 17 to 19, the Shadow Armor at whatsit's (the guy who makes the Ankheg armor) dropped from 13,000 to about 11,000.

    Oh, and as for the "best stats ever", when I first started playing, I rolled a human paladin with 18/99 strength, 18 dexterity, 18 constitution, 18 charisma, 14 wisdom, and 10 intelligence. Beat that!

    The X-Cap or XP-Cap is the maximum amount of experience the game allows you to have.
    Any experience you gain after that point is still recorded, but will not allow you to level up.

    [IMG] If you intend to continue this character into BG2:ToB you should definitely choose multiclass!

    If you intend to only continue with BG2:SoA it's tricky. If you dual class in BG1 the first class will be so low level that it won't be much use.

    One possibility - which I only recently took seriously - is to start as a Mage and dual class after reaching Mage-2. This will allow you to reach max Fighter levels, it won't hurt your HP's much at all and it will allow you to use all those mage items. Of course spell casting will not be your strong side. ;)
    Starting as a fighter and dual classing after Fighter-2 is not that appealing. The fighter items aren't much use for a mage anyway. The extra HP's from those two fighter levels are helpful early in BG1, but mean very little in BG2:SoA. Extra weapon proficiencies are almost useless since you can't hit anything much anyway. In BG2:SoA a good dual class is F-9/M-x, so waiting with dual classing until BG2:SoA is a good idea.

    To The intentioner of the Damned!...

    Just go to the profile screen of your character and export him. then when you start up your new character you can just load him up as a prefabricated character.........hope this helps you.

    You guys are awesome! I can't believe those stats? I think because the mins are so high for a Paladin, it might be easier to get "godlike stats" than with an average straight class fighter, but I'm not sure. Mine'll do, I guess. After all, I don't want to spend my whole life rolling stats when I could be playing, right?

    As for the Ring of Wizardry, as I understand it, it is only there in the unpatched version of Baldur's Gate. Many of the walkthrough's give its exact location.

    Sooo, for those of you who have gone to BGII what is your character of choice & why???

    I think that this would be better to ask in BGII forum but since you asked my choice would be sorcerer (extremely powerfull if used correctly) or blade (wielding two longswords, singing improved bard song, casting spells, etc.).

    [IMG] Sir Dargorn,

    Importing is too easy. If there's a long way, i'll find it. Besides, i rolled better stats in the end:
    STR = 18/59
    DEX = 18
    CON = 18
    INT = 12
    WIS = 12
    CHA = 12
    (90 in total)
    Not that inteligence, wisdom and charisma are that important for F/T, but at least i felt proud after i had rolled them.
    It always comes down to pride with this game.

    Dex. 18 :eek:
    Con. 18 :eek:
    Int. 16 :eek:
    Wis. 17 :eek:
