    I agree. I'm pretty sure it rhymes with "bitch" (yes, I'll say the word), but out of a decade of habit, I still pronounce it as "leech."

    Hmmm... OK, I decided to look in my Webster's Unabridged:

    lich, n. a dead body; a corpse. [Scot. and Brit. Dial.]

    Thus, according to the Key to Pronunciation at the front, the "i" is as in "it" and the "ch" is as in "church"...

    Looks like the bitches have it :)

    [IMG] Now that the minor league bout is resolved...quite well, I might add...it's time for the main event:

    let's try "otyugh"

    - long or short 'o'
    - long or short 'u'
    - 'gh' silent or 'eff' (as in tough)
    - and what about the 'y'
    - two sylables or three ??

    ;) :D

    Yes, Definitely bitch...
    Er, it rhymes with it I mean...

    I have no basis on how I pronounce Otyugh...but I say it's Ought-Yug

    Like, "I ought to go put gas in the car" and ...yug..rhymes with rug.

    Once again, I have no basis of fact...just the way I think it is. Heh.

    Otyugh could also be pronounced with an "F" sound, not unlike the word "enough". I, myself, can't see "Ot" pronounced as "out". The blatant lack of a "U" should make that fairly plain. The true pronunciation, however is beyond me. I'm also glad to hear that "Lich" rhymes with "bitch", because I now know that I've been pronouncing this correctly, despite my ignorance.

    [IMG] Yes, I didn't think it was pronounced out, either.

    I said ought ... I think, it's prounounced 'awt' pretty much...just like the way Otyugh should be pronounced...

    Score!

    Just going back to the lich/leech thing, I think I can suddenly understand why they are the bane of adventurers now, just imagine with me:

    Bob: I need you guys to go kill a lich for me, I will pay you well.
    Adventurer: A leech huh? *snicker* You will pay me to kill a pathetic leech?
    Bob: *Aghast in horror* Pathetic Lich? You must be very powerful indeed, 1000 gold and whateveer you find with him.
    Adv.:Now your talking just a normal, run of the mill leech right? Its not a giant leech or anything?
    Bob: If you can call them normal at all, yes the lich is a regular sized one.
    Adv: Cool, we'll be back in a day or two. Lets head out guys....
    ANd the level 5 group is summarily slaughtered. I think its pronounced Lich (like itch) =)

    [IMG] Ok...Drow.

    Does it rhyme with "blow" or "plow"?

    And what about those lurker-above type manta ray things that are spelled like ixtixitil. Pronounce that!

    And I've always pronounced otyugh as "ought-yug" like "knot-mug."

    Drow = Plow

    Otyugh = Oh-tee-ugg

    and the other thing is pronounced: "Get the hell out of here! It's coming this way!"

    Or exactly how it sounds...However you prefer. :D
