Great mod all around - the hardest part is remaining focused on one group long enough without starting over to try more NPCs.

That said, I'm not going overboard and building parties exclusively from the mod. I actually like the mixing and matching. However, I have a feeling I'm going to want to do an evil party next. I've done them before, but I always had to settle when it came to the thief position. I usually ended up with Jan as he was "only" chaotic neutral.

I'm thinking I definitely want Shar Teel, Tiax, Xzar and Montoron. (I'm knid of doing it backwards, and deciding at the end of what my PC should be.) Is Quayle neutral or evil? I'm thinking he's Chaotic Neutral. Then again, I can be a cleric mage and then pick up a second fighter, which would be Korgan/Kagain. (I'm actually thinking Korgan would remain the more useful option, being a berserker.)

Although I may run into some equipment problems with this set up. What are Shar Teel's starting proficiencies? Obviously some type of sword, but long, bastard, two-handed?

    Shar-teel
She duals Longswords. Her starting HPs is less than desirable as well. She can't be your main tank, she won't last.
Kaigan(Tal....:p) has a weird starting mix. He has a +1 Axe in hand, but is not proficient with it. ???? Needs fixing with SK after you get him to join your party.

I have found that I actually love have 2 Thieves in the party. Something I never attempted before. I use Tiax for OL, FT and P&P. Monty for everything else, including backstabbing.

I prefer two tanks anyway. And regardless of whether it's Korgan or Kagain, it doesn't really matter. (Although I definitely don't want Shar Teel, Korgan AND Kagain, because I do want to keep the other three members I listed.) And if Kagain isn't proficient in axes, well, I don't necessarily even need him to be if I'm taking Korgan along too. There aren't enough great axes to go around for two characters. (Unlike longswords where there are a TON, although must are special purpose.)

Having two thieves in the party is useful for the specialization you stated. However, it only works if they are both multi-classed. Otherwise, you just end up with a heap of thieving skills you don't need. Both your thieves must be able to bring something else to the table other than thieving skills. It also helps if you pick up set traps for both of them.

I appear to be hopelessly stuck... Got three quests in the new are of the city. Solved one by luck - only because I was collecting pieces for Kangaxx anyway, and I have no clue on the other two.

    1. I'm supposed to find this book on someone named Oriona (sp?) in the government district - no idea who she is, but it doesn't appear to be in the council building.

    2. Also supposed to find some priest of Talos to give me info on the resurrection of somebody, and I think I've talked to every damn priest in the temple district to no avail.

True to a certain extent, although I should point out that an assassin gets half the thieving skills of a normal thief. A bounty hunter only gets 2/3 of the skills. Having that pair can mean that you won't be swimming in thief skills. Although more interesting might be an assassin & swashbuckler pair, as they are kinda opposites. One hides in the shadows and backstabs, the other is more a straight-up fighter.

Never did figure out this quest.

One more question - I guess for Blades and Smiling Imp - can I get a review on the kobold that tries to join my party in the new area added? I didn't have him join last time because I already had a full party. I'm willing to consider adding him for this play through.

I "think" Smiling Imp posted on SHS that he will be adding Deekin to the mod as well. Possibly that willl be the kobold?

Truth be told, I don't recall the kobold's name, and since I turned down his offer to join me, he walked off. He was in the house with one of the merchants on the northeast side of the new section of the city.

Bugger that! I found a rather breaking part of taking Shar-Teel with me. Two actually. Both in the slums. First, when you encounter the two thugs in the street - the conversation that starts - "Calm down Corvale, Mr. F doesn't like you killing people in the streets" - whenever the conversation starts, there's a fatal error and I get dropped out of the game.

That's small potatoes, so I just walk around the long way when I have to. The second is a bit more annoying - when I get to the final battle in the slavers quest through the sewers, Shar Teel goes hostile. I thought it was like berserk but I couldn't control her. So I killed her, and took her to a temple to have her raised, and when she was raised she was STILL hostile. Fortunately, I had a save game from before the encounter, so now I can't do that quest at all. Bummer.

Hmmm... thanks for bringing this to my attention, Aldeth. I will check it out.

EDIT: I just released a new version of the mod yesterday, and some of these problems may already be fixed.

I just tried the encounters you mentioned and it seems to be working fine, but perhaps other variables or dialog options are responsible. And yes, Deekin Scalesinger is the kobold that you meet in the Water Gardens. He was originally a NPC from Neverwinter Nights, now brought to Athkatla to help <CHARNAME> fulfill <PRO_HISHER> destiny!

    Shaitan,

I'm at work and that link is blocked by our security, but I have a question. Is that the same link that has been up for some time now? If so, I have already installed it and found it extremely buggy. So much so that is was game-breaking. I had to uninstall it. I was hoping it was going to be cleaned up and added/merged to the Smiling Imp's mod. Is that wishful thinking? I know the Smiling Imp was corresponding with Zireal(?? don't quite remember the other Modders name...sorry, no offense meant) about possibly coming together with their mods over on SHS forums.

I'm thinking of re-configuring my evil party. While Tiax is funny as hell, I do kind of find it annoying that I can't have the pick locks and disarm traps button on the character toolbar. I can find traps without extra clicking, but I cannot disarm/pick locks without extra clicking.

I'm also thinking of going double dwarf if I can figure a way to get Kaigan into the party. I probably would have dropped Shar Teel for the new and improved Sarevok in ToB anyway.

    I definitely want:

    PC Half-orc berserker-cleric (SK)
    Korgan (berserker)
    Montaron fighter-assassin (SK)
    Xzar (necromancer)

And those four by themselves could probably take care of SoA. That said, I'm certainly not passing up the opportunity to take along two other characters when there are so many BG1NPC that I haven't tried. Regardless though, with the four I have being able to take on SoA as is, I have complete flexibility with the other two. So perhaps Kagain and Deekin. I have no freakin idea what class Deekin happens to be, but if he's a fighter, that's a really heavy melee group.

Deekin is from one of the NWN add-ons. SoE maybe? I believe he was a Bard.

With Kagain, just be persistant. Save before talking to him initially and follow Imp's instructions. It's annoying trying to get him to join.

I would try Quayle as well. You will be light on Spellcasting and he is a great support caster. As an I/C you can basically make him into any type of caster you need. Bombardier, healer, buffer, whatever. Or SK him into an Illusionist only.

You could also try the Rylorn NPC mod. He is a Blackguard of Cyric. Not overpowered either. He wields Two-Handers, which none of the evil NPCs do until you get Saevok. He's great with Ravager or the Warblade. His quest is
His Temple wants you to destroy all the Paladins of the Radiant Heart. It is quite a battle! Took me several tries with a Level 12 or so party. Also, the dialogue is pretty funny when you meet the Mad Priest of Cyric in the Docks district. The mod adds a scroll to Deidre's inventory. Buy it for 1 GP and read it. It gives you an option to follow a map to a hidden Temple of Cyric. You will find Rylorn there. Juut read the scroll again and you are back in the Promenade.

Me and Zireael were talking about doing some crossbanter stuff between our mods, but things have been put on hiatus for the moment. It might be for the best though as the download center is down at Spellhold Studios and adding to new content may not be possible. Right now, I'm just trying to fix whatever bugs happen to spring up until the downloaders are back on line.
