[IMG] Doesn't anybody use multiclass characters? I love them!
Okay, people say that you gain experience at only half the rate, but remember that classes often require you to double your experience points to go to the next level - so the party is only one level lower than single-class characters at the lower levels.

Compare two simple parties with two million experience points each.
Each single class member gets 500,000 experience points so you end up with a fighter level 10, a cleric level 10, a wizard level 11 and a thief level 12
The dual class party has to share experience points among each class, so you might have a fighter/cleric levels 9/9, a wizard/thief levels 10/11 plus TWO other characters.

In my opinion, the addition of two extra characters gives far more options than the extra levels you have missed. You might like to add an extra Wizard/Cleric for mega-magic power, take a specialist Slayer or perhaps a backup thief to find the traps that the first thief misses. If your first cleric gets held, it's really handy to have another cleric who can cast Remove Paralysis on them.

I agree that not having access to kits is a downside and some combinations restrict your choice of weapons or armour, but you can't have everything.
Of course at higher levels you start to fall behind because the XP increase drops, but is a fighter 20 really that much more powerfull than a fighter/cleric 14/12 if both wield the same equipment? I think the addition of cleric spells make up for the extra hit points, thaco, etc.

I agree with everything you said, but you cannot have a specalist mage or any kits in a multiclass without doing a little *ahem*....editing. Like you've seen me say before, I'm a big advocate of Fighter/Mages. The fact that you always are leveling up in both classes makes them that much superior to a dual classed character, and if you have the experience cap remover or the expansion, you'll really see them shine. Wizard Slayer/Cleric sounds like a great combo since clerics don't require that many magical weapons and it makes sense as a class too. I'm currently playing an elven Fighter/Invoker, and having plenty of fun, he's much more powerful than a kensai/mage as well. Not having grandmastery is just as much of a blessing as a curse, since you can use a lot of different types of weapons to great effect. Try Dak'kons Zerth + Belm +2 . Anyway, I'll shut up now since this is about multiclassed characters in general, not a fighter/mage disscussion, and I don't want it to turn into thus. Be sure to download Shadow Keeper if you want to have a multiclassed kit or specialist.

I played (and finished twice) with F/M/T.
And I wouldn't change that class for nothing.

Oh, yes, I never used Bonus Merchants as he is suggesting, F/M/T is too good to use that lame stuff - it would be too easy, don't you think?

I've used a couple multiclass characters before. They are IMO weaker at the lower levels but when the get to the higher levels they are worth it.

I used to always play a ranger. I just finished BG1 again with a F/T. The character was awesome. I am looking forward to bringing him into BG2/TOB.

Yeah, and they're boring too. Stick to the topic will you?

[IMG] Like Extremist, I played a solo game with a Fighter/Mage/Thief and enjoyed it a lot. My character was involved no matter what the task; be it a head-on fight, a bit of sneakery or some fireballs lobbed into the face of an advancing party.
I guess all the NPCs got a little bored standing around while my character hogged all the glory.

Now I'm playing a game with four generated characters and only one (the monk) is not multiclass. I have a F/C, a M/C and a F/T plus the monk and two NPCs.

Multi-class characters are awesome, I agree. However, single classes are just as good if you don't remove the balancing factors for a MC char. The XP cap and kitless factors are for balancing the MC with the single class. If you do remove the balancing factors, MC is undeniably overpowered. With their balancing limitations, both single and multi classes equal and surpass each other in different areas.

ARGH! If only this was in the ToB forum I could give you some really good reasons.

I know what you mean, Lord Sarevok.

Hardcase, I know what you mean. My first game was like that. I just couldn't decide what clasas to play, so...

The only balancing I took out was the XP cap because I don't agree with it.
I'm willing to miss out on kits to get the extra abilities that multi-class offers.

I like F/T a lot, since he is much better than thief only and every party must have one thief, but F/M/T is the best (but didnt used it in BG1 since it was damn too slow to advance even with F/T) But I also used F/M/C instead cleric only, M/C was good, but F/M/C can also make some damage with warhammers and it seamed to me that he hits 99% with the 1st sling bullet.

Hmm, F/M/C or F/M/Druid sounds interesting. The Druid polymorph could come in handy.
I've never tried it. Has anybody else played either of these class combinations? Comments?

  16. Lord Sarevok Guest

Can't have a Fighter/Mage/Druid :(. Only druid multi or dual class is the Fighter/Druid. Just take an Avenger, since they get a lot of mage spells, and extra shapeshifting abilites as well, which makes them better fighters. I'm going to make fighter/avenger sometime soon. Sure, it ain't legit but it's FUN.

    RTFM :nono:
Sorry to disagree, Lord Sarevok, but check the manual. :book:
Page 235 says a Half-Elf can be a F/M/C with an extra note saying the Cleric can be a Druid if you like. **no cheating required**

(Yeah - I didn't believe it either when Total said it, so I dusted off the ol' manual and sure enough there it was)

[IMG] The manual is taken out of D&D rules. I dont know anyway to get that class got any ideas?

  19. Lord Sarevok Guest

No, that's one of the many wrong things in the manual. Try getting your facts from game experience, instead of books ;).

Fighter/Mage/Druid is *not* possible to play legitimatly, but I don't see why you would want one anyway.....each class requires a lot of experience to level up.

They maybe need lots of XP to level up but they are very versatile characters. If you have a f/m/t you can do everything by your selves. I have played alittle solo with one nd its funny. Everything is possibly but its hard.
