So I made a druid..and decided I'm better off with a custom portrait. I searched around the internet and found a few good ones. They don't seem to be working though. The large and small ones are all the right size and everything. I did get them off of portrait sites after all.. and they are definitely in my "portraits" folder. The list shows up when I click custom..but I keep getting the head with a ?. Any ideas what the problem could be?

99% chance it's a file format problem. Try right-clicking on the file and checking its properties. If the file is listed as a .jpg (JPEG) file, IE games won't recognise it. You'll need to right-click on it again and select the "edit" option from the menu. This will open the file in MS Paint, where you can select the option to "Save As..." from the file menu. You'll need to save the portrait as a Bitmap (.bmp) file, preferably with 24-bit colour (any bit rate should work, but 24 gives the best quality).

    Notes
    1. Websites usually save portraits as .jpg because of bandwidth. Bitmaps are an uncompressed format, whereas JPEGs use lossy compression, which makes the filesizes much, much smaller. For a site with lots of images, this can make a massive difference.
    2. Technically, BG1,2 & IWD "require" 24-bit colour for large portraits and 8-bit for small. But cutting the colour quality by that much in Paint usually leads to horrible results, and the game can still cope with 24-bit. So I always select 24-bit format.
