Feeling bored with current games, I have recently gotten back into IWD2 because I've always loved the game (this happens every ~2 years or so).

I'm looking for some ideas for fun/unique challenges; more than just trying to solo or something like that. Anything goes, no harm in suggesting :p So just post your ideas, thanks :)

I like to do "as little resting as possible", where I spend half an hour on a fight that could just be solved by copious fireballing ;).

Another one I did was let every party member start with 4 levels of fighter and then dualing, ..ok this one is probably no challenge^^.

    But other ideas:
only divine/magic/no casters party, only blunt/bludgeoning/no weapons party, less/no buffs before fights.

Rest no more than once per area, clear the area and get all the treasure (gotta get it all) and quests. Try to clear a dungeon such as the Horde Fortress or the Ice Temple without resting once you enter. Fits with the "rest as little as possible".
The ice temple you're allowed to rest once you've cleared everything else possible but need to wait for a certain time of day.

Obviously you don't kill everything if there's a peaceful solution. Just explore everywhere, collect all the treasure, and end the threats.

Iron Man mode from TOEE....no going back to old saves. Only continue where you left off from your previous save. Makes you rethink some of your tactics..

Or I could play through TOEE again ^.^

Has anyone tried solo'ing with a non-caster class, or solo HoF at all? I know people have solo'd HoF, but has anyone completed it solo? Also, is there a mod that introduces the massive greataxe of flame +5 to the random loot tables? I don't think so, but I'd like to get one in some way other than the console.

Normal mode has been soloed with every class.

Total game time is a good metric to make things more challenging.

Pacifist mode: see how few monsters you can kill and still beat the game.

I forget -- does the game track how many monsters you kill?

How about this challenge: play solo and take as many different classes as possible and level them up evenly. Depending on alignment, you will have between 7 and 9 classes, or all 11 if you download the mod to remove alignment restrictions.

I think it would play like a fighter with poor BAB, but amazing saves and a bunch of level 1 spells.

Well, keeping your resting to a minimum is something I do automatically. Not so much for the challenge, as for my compulsion to take ages rearranging spell picks. That, and I don't like 'wasting' unused spells.

If you're in the mood for something totally different, yet familiar, try the Icewind Gate conversion: It's the entire Shadows of Amn (and a few buggy maps from Watcher's Keep and ToB) converted to the IWD2 engine. Tremendous fun, and quite challenging. You can keep the items you get by saving and importing your character into the regular game later, so you can play SoA and IWD2 together. It's tricky to install, so take a look at my IWD_4dummies file; it has info on how to get it up and running. You'll find it in the link-list, together with a slew of other IWD2 mods.

Unfortunatley, for this conversion you can only install IWD2 mods before the IG2 conversion. Any alterations to the exact install of BGII - SoA, and the conversion won't work. Right now I'm focused on installing the opposite - the Baldur's Gate Trilogy megamod. I've been downloading, patching and installing mods for over a week now... A challenge even before the game starts!

    aye, it does.

I'd probably go for a "save only once you entered a new map" - might be nifty for specially HoF. (or in some cases "save before entering a new map" in regards to the towers in severed hands)

Could also be combined with rest once/map...

Some of these are the meaning of OPness
    - bludgeoning = rocks, since it does hit everything with full force, but its harder to get decent ones for anybody in your party
    - "only divine" would even work well in HoF, I think my most abused spell was Wail of LOL, skull trap *whistle* and delayed fireball

-> only piercing weapons (!) and no arcane stuff should cripple you for quite a bit

Am currently play solo wizard ID2
Tiefling, dual weapons, expert daggers etc convert strength to agility for hit, agility 20 +spell of cat agility. Two daggers which are very fast and very accurate. Then spells mostly of protection, speed bonus to hit. In result character is better than fighter. Beside that I like spells of summon monsters and turn monsters to fight on your side which is like having full team. Most interesting is use combinations of spells as tactic against any obstacle, each battle looks different.
