You get a reward when you complete a rank not a level. There is 5 levels in each rank and 10 ranks. So that is 50 battles ahead of you.

    The rewards are:

    1. Dragon’s Belt (+3 to Reflex saving throws)

    2. Potion of Holy Transference (permanent -1 to Dexterity and +2 to Wisdom)

    3. Abishai Hide Armor (A.C. +3, damage reduction of 5/+1)

    4. Boots of Grounding (+6 to electrical resistance)

    5. Throwing Axe of Shocking Burst (+5 enchantment, +1d6 electrical damage, 10% chance of another 1d10 electrical damage).

    6. Club of Disruption (+3 to attack bonus and damage, +5 enchantment, outsiders and undead must make a fortitude save or be disrupted).

    7. Ice Spear +4 (Ice Lance 1/day).

    8. Composite Long Bow of Empowerment (whenever character is struck, a random ability score is improved by 4)

    9. Wand with 50 charges of Animate Dead

    10. Brilliant Short Sword +5 (ignores the armor and shield bonuses of the target)

And the grand prize for completing the Battle Square is:

Bracers of Icelandic Pearl (+4 bonus to Armor Class, -2 penalty to dexterity, Lesser Planar Binding: Water Elemental 1/day, Cone of Cold 1/day, Horrid Wilting 1/day)

Nebux, BSQ is a glorified game of tic-tac-toe. You complete a "game" of it by winning at least 3 boxes in a row on the Tic-Tac-Toe grid.

But the thing is, to complete a "rank", you have to win 5 seperate "levels" or games, one where you win a total of 3 squares, one with 4 squares, 5 squares, 6, and 7. You do not have do win these battles in this particular order. You could go 7, 5, 3, 4, 6 if that floats your boat. Also note that just because you fill in 7 squares, you still have to have 3 in a row on the grid to "win". ALSO note that when you are going for a number of squares greater than 3, you have to make certain that you don't mark 3 in a row too early, since that ends that particular "game". That is, if you are trying to fill in 7 of the 9 grid boxes, you mave to make certain that your 3-in-a-row Tic-Tac-Toe is the FINAL box you mark.

    Let me explain.

Assume that this is an empty grid:

    ooo
    ooo
    ooo

Now if you want to complete a 7 squares level, you're going to need to get to a set up similar to this:

    xxo
    xox
    oxx

Notice that you've placed 6 X's without having 3 in a row. And the next X that you place will finish the game.

Another important note. Ironhawk Skylord is incorrect. It's not fifty battles to complete Battlesquares. It's TWO HUNDRED and Fifty solo battles. There are a minimum of 25 solo battles at each rank (3+4+5+6+7) and there are 10 ranks, so that comes to 250 solo battles.

    A little help to win

I found that after you win the first rank of the first of the first level, that you should then attempt to beat the six level. Winning the six level and gettting "Club of Disruption" makes every other level easier and most importantly faster. The club will destory any outsider (aka elementals, demons, devils) and undead (aka zombie lords, Cold ones, Drowned Dead) if it fails its save. The failing of the save happen regularly. It makes long drawn out fights shorten to as little as one swing of the club. To make this work you need a person who uses a mace quite well. If the pc is a dwarf as well it helps with gaints but not necessary. Also helpful is to save after every fight that you can (sometimes after you win you have an effect on you and the game won't let you save.

    Hope this helps somebody.

HoF mode only upgrades the Dragon's Belt (extra 6/- cold resistance) and the Abishai's Hide Armor (10/+2 instead). Everything else is same as normal.
