    No, no, they aren't.

    By the way, I forget: what does cutthroat do specifically? An extra x1 backstab, or what?

    Don't pick on the short swords. There are 2 good ones equipable by those who can use them - Arbane's (haste on self for 12 seconds + free action while equipped) and Ilbratha (mirror image on self). The other interesting ones are only useable by NPCs HD and Mazzy, fyi.

    And with only SoA, Cutthroat is one of a handful of +4 or better weapons you find. Off the top of my head, it would be the Wave, Dragon's Breath, Crom Faeyr, Cutthroat, Carsomyr, Boneblade, SotM and Staff of Rhynn.

    Kudane +2 is also a short sword and one of the best weapons in SoA

    At least in SOA an 18 strength thief and an 18 strength mage have the same damage between short swords and Staves. Scimitar's aren't looking that much different. They are kind of rare and it's harder to find good ones.

    Short swords really aren't doing that bad. And from the beginning of the game they are some of the fastest weapons. Some would say essential for backstabbing to have a fast weapon.

    That's why it's a good idea to get the Short Sword of Backstabbing +3 which has a 0 speed factor. I don't know what the cutthroat is though, but I'm sure it's low.

    Kundane is also 0 for speed factor. Cutthroat is 1.

    ^Not much difference then?

    I always thought cutthroat had some special 'Hidden' powers; but you guys say it is just +4? Well you can bash Kangaxx at least! YAY!

    @kuemper:
    Though it's not listed, Kundane gives you an extra attack per round.

    Kundanes extra attack is good for putting in your off hand with dual weapon style.

    It functions in a similar manner to Belm, but druids can't use it.

    Swashbucklers and Blades can be great with both Belm and Kundane.
