At the moment, I'm in Chapter 2 finishing off all the optional quests (only Firkraag, Shadow Lord, and the three Temple quests - this exludes High Level Encounters, which if are not too hard, I'll attempt before trashing Bodhi's lair!"

Anyway, I have the following party...

    ~~Herr'Don~~ (12 level Human fighter)

Main weapon: Flail of Ages +3 (five stars in proficiency)

Off-hand weapon: Shield of Harmony +2 (thinking of using the Crom Faeyr when I find all the pieces)

Armour: Plate of Balduran (with shield, and other armour stuff, i have AC of -11!)

    ~~Minsc~~ (almost 12 level)

Main weapon: Lilicor two-handed sword (has two stars in two-handed sword and two-handed weapon, dealing roughly 20-40 damage for each hit!)

    Off-hand weapon: As above.

    Armour: Full Plate +1

~~Keldorn~~ (almost 10 level - he's with his wife for a week at the moment!!!)

Main weapon: His own sword with that fireshield thing.

    Off-hand weapon: As above.

Armour: His own armour with free action.

~~Anomen~~ (alomst 13 level due to his side-quest)

Main weapon: Wyvern's Tail and Sling+2

Off-hand weapon: His normal shield with fire/cold resistances

    Armour: Full Plate

    ~~Nalia~~ (12 level)

Main weapon: Tasheron's bow with fanthom arrows, or staff of fire/air.

    Off-hand weapon: As above.

Armour: Robe of Vecna, Bracers of AC 3,etc, givng her an AC of -4 (even Minsc only has an AC of -3!!!)

    ~~Jan~~ (11/11 level)

Main weapon: His own crossbow, Boomerang dagger for backstabbing.

    Off-hand weapon: as above.

Armour: his own one with 25% resistances to weapon attacks)

    --My questions--

I was thinking of giving Herr'Don the Crom Faeyr when I get it made, and duel-wield with the Flail of Ages.

Then I was thinking about the Celestial Fury and the Equalizer. Who will I give these to? My characters seem to have great weapons as it is (Keldorn will get the Holy Avenger)

I was thinking of giveing these to Minsc to duel wield as the Equalizer gives you Mind Shield as well as Lilarcor, but I have hardly any proficiencies to hand out for these weapons.

I could give Anomen the Crom Fayer, but he's hardly likely to be in the front line. He's more of a secondary fighter, just in case.

Nalia and Jan use bows mostly, so I think Minsc and Herr'Don duel-wielding would be the best option. Or should I leave Minsc with two-handed swords?

Your opinions would be greatly appreciated before I go spending my next proficiency slots,

    :) ~~~Herr'Don~~~ :)

[IMG] Looks like you have quite a nice party.

I don't know the particulars of your gaming style or your attributes for your fighter (or at least I don't recall them from reading). From personal perference, I always give Minsc two-handed weapons because his strength and extra proficiences (if placed in two-handed weapons) makes him quite deadly...as I am sure you figured out.

I would say give your main fighter the Crom Faeyr and double with the Flail...

    It's your preference, however.

    Good luck!

I can hardly imagine a flail dual wielded with a war hammer. Give your fighter the Crom Faeyr instead of Flail of the Ages and use the shield of harmony (mind shield) which gives a -3 AC bonus. You will be an untouchable killin' machine.

De Red-dragon-plate is very useful... and of course Carsomyr, the Holy Avenger for one of your Paladins. So I would advice you to visit Firkraag.

Oh and what about celestrial fury for a thief?

Tin, he should dual Flail of the Ages with Crom Fayr, maybe not 100% realistic but with 5 slot's on flail.... Put you next slots on War-Hammer and go for Crom Fayr in the off-hand and the flail in the main hand, FotA with str 25 realy rocks.

Ah and unfortunatly you have only one dual-classed mage, that's a pity...... Maybe you can better get another mage instead of Jan or Anomen....

[IMG] - Flail of Ages dual wielded with Crom Faeyr is a great combo. Stick to that and arrange the rest based on it.

    - Keldorn should obviously have Carsomyr.

    - Nalia is ok as she is.

    - Anomen you can give Mace of Disruption +2 if you know how to get it and upgrade it. Sling of Everard (or sling of Seeking +2) improves on the current sling if you have the extra merchants installed.

    - Jan Jansen I have never played with for long so I'll stay out of giving advice on him this time.

    - Minsc can use the Shield of Harmony since Herr'Don isn't.
Celestial Fury is great for Minsc. I like to spend his first two proficiencies on Katana for this. Until he gets the "Mother of all Katanas" he can use Lilarcor .

    IMHO Equalizer is... crap.
Well ok it's not that bad, but I wrote that to express my feelings about this sword. Almost the first thing you do is find part of this artifact and you have to play most of the game and go through different (funny)hardships before getting to assemble it. It's not as good as all that may lead you to believe. It looks ugly too! :p

    In reply to Headbanger:

Jan is actually a duel-classed thief and mage, and is quite powerful with Nalia, and I need Anomen for his clerical spells and abilities, not to mention the fact that he's one of the highest level members of my party, and got a bonus +3 to Wisdom for completing his quest.

And I agree also with the Crom Faeyr duel-wielded with Flail of Ages, since there'll be an extra two flail heads in ToB.

    Herr'Don's stats are as follows:

Strenght: 19 (with girdle), 15 normally
    Dexterity: 18 normally
    Constitution: 18 normally
    Intelligence: 13 or 15 (can't really
remember as It's useless to a
    fighter)
    Wisdom: Same as Intelligence.
    Charisma: 3 normally, but with all extras it's 23 (Wow!!! :) )

I really like the Flail of Ages as it usually breaks trhough magical shields to deal the extra points of cold, fire and acid damage (great for killing mages or distrupting their spells) and if he had the Crom Faeyr then he would hit better, for more damage and I wouldn't need the girdle.

Minsc is great with Lilacor, but Celestial Fury seems to be a great weapon, and he could do with the extra AC bonus of a shield!

    That's the attributes anyway,

    Herr'Don

I would almost agree with you, but five proficiencies in Flail seem like a lot to waste right now, and since ToB will make Flail of Ages better I think I'll stick with duel-wielding,

    In reply to Earl Grey:

I agree with you for Herr'Don, Nalia, and Keldorn.

Jan is not a good fighter (he's crap to be honest) but a backstab with a boomberang dagger lands about 50 damage, which is enough to kill several anoying mages, etc.

Jan's crossbow is not great, but he can fire the stunning Flashers, but since I never use the Flashers because of their weight and inability to work on high-level opponents, I just use bolts of electricity or biting. I was thinking of giving him a better crossbow, if I can give him Herr'Don's girdle of Strenght.

For Anomen, I agree with the choice of Mace of Distruption, but since it needs the Illithium to upgrade, I will have to sacrifice the Temple's quest involving it.

Since I spent nearly all my GP on things like Shield of Balduran, Plate of Balduran, Vhailor's helm, etc I have to wait a while before buying Anomen the Sling of Everad (that's the one that needs no bullets, right?)

As for Minsc, I think Celestial Fury with Shield of Harmony will work well, and I kind of agree with you about Equalizer. It's damage is not great and it's basically just a normal longsword with a few crap abilites, and it takes so long to get the pieces, so I think I'll just sell the parts for the needed GP!

Well, thanks for the help guys, now I needn't waste my next proficiency slots.

One more question: What about the Halberd:Wave? Who will use this, prehaps Keldorn when we run into a Fire Elemental, an Efreeti or a Salamander?

And what crossbow should Jan have? the Crossbow of searing with it's extra fire damage, or the giant-hair crossbow.

    Thanks again for the help,

    Herr'Don

    My opinion FWIW... SPOILERS INCLUDED

1.) Drop either Minsc or Keldorn in favor of Valygar. Both Minsc and Keldorn are basically the same thing... low dexterity tanks. Keep Keldorn because of his True Sight and the unbalanced Holy Avenger or keep Minsc because he is hilarious and has been with you since Nashkel. Also, get the gauntlets of dexterity for the one you keep (Unseeing Eye quest).
Valygar offers options as both a ranged and a close-in fighter, can dual-wield, can backstab and with a girdle of strength can be quite formidable.

2.) Get Jan some bracers of defense and put his custom ones on only when you need thieving skills

    3.) The Equalizer useless.

4.) Shields are for clerics and sissies.

5.) Crom Faeyr is a bit unbalanced but your fighter using it with the Flail of ages would be powerful.

6.) Somebody should wield Celestial Fury as the stunning is too powerful to pass up. Also, given its strength, it is ridiculously easy to obtain.

7.) Get the Sling of Everard for Anomen. It is worth every penny.

8.) Get the Ilithium Coated Mace of Disruption. It is extremely powerful. Give this and Celestial Fury to Minsc to dual wield (if you keep him).
PS. You can get it coated without ruining the temple quest. Get both the fake and real ilithium(sp?), Set the real thing aside somewhere, give the fake stuff to Sir Sarles, watch him get insulted and leave, go to the temple anyway, some other sculptor will use the fake stuff to do a sculture more pleasing to Helm, go get the real stuff and viola.

  13. IMHO, the Sling of Seeking which allows a strength bonus is much better than Everard's Sling. I have Jaheira in my party using it with the Hill Giant girdle, and she does around 10-16 damage each hit. This is the same as Anomen would probably hit for in melee, and also, because he will not be attacked much in the back, his low dexterity and high AC aren't to much of a problem. He can also pull out his mace and come to the aid of your spellcasters if any enemies break off and try and attack them.

  14. shadow_thief Guest

well...i wouldnt exactly say the sling of seeking is better than the everard(?) sling because its wat ur looking for in the weapon. if u concentrate on defense then the everard sling is better than the sling of seeking. but if ur going for offense the sling of seeking is much more suited for the task.

Well with a Sling +2 at the moment and +2 or +1 bullets Anome's dealing over 13 points of damage a hit, more than he did with his close-combat weapons.

If Sling of Everard is the one that needs no bullets then I'll probably opt for that, as carrying around loads of +1 and +2 bullets takes up too much space while exploring.

    Thanks for the suggestions though,

    Herr'Don

PS: Thanks to ccav for the info on the sculptor quest :)

Hi! From the postings it seems that Crom Faeyr and Harmony Shield are powerful items. Where can we get it? I just finished the red dragon in chapter 2, and only completed about 40% of the side quests.

Can anyone list out (or show the link of) all weapons that is combined by Cromwell, like Equalizer, and where the components are.

    TQ!

Ok saukoon, I'll tell you where the things are and give you the listing:

    MAJOR ITEMS SPOILER AHEAD:
    1.

    5.
    4.
    3.
    2.
    1.

Ok here's where you can find items, etc:

I can't remember where the Shield of Harmony was, although I think it had something to do with Trademeet, or the Planar Sphere.

As for the Crom Fayer, you'll have to collect several items for this. Here are the items, and locations:

---Crom Fayer: Hammer of Thunderbolts +3---

~Hammer of Thunderbolts +3 (In the sewers, in a secret chamber after you get a key from Firkraag)

~Crom Fayer scroll (Shadow Dragon, Shadow Dungeon - the Ruined Temple place)

~Gauntlets of Ogre Power (In the Planar Sphere on a halfling mage)

~Girdle of Frost Giant Strenght (Deathknight Room - I think this is in the asylum)

As for Cromwell's other makeable items:

RED DRAGON SCALE (AC -1, +50% FIRE RESISTANCE)

    ~Red Dragon scales (On Firkraag)

    COST TO MAKE: 5,000GP

ANKHEG PLATE MAIL (AC 1, VERY LIGHTWEIGHT)

~Shadow Dragon scales (on the Shdow Dragon in Temple Ruins)

    COST: 5,000GP

~Gesen Bow Shaft (In the Tanner's Shop, in Bridge District on one of the Tanner's guards)

~Gesen Bow String (Asylum Dungeon level 3)

    COST TO MAKE: 7,500GP

EQUALIZER SWORD (Mind Shield, extra damage and thaco the further enemy is from true neutral)

~Pommel Jewel of Equalizer (Irenicu's Dungeon)

~Hilt of Equalizer (Underdark, Eastern Tunnels)

~Blade of Equalizer (Underdark, Southern Tunnels)

    COST TO MAKE: 7,500GP

CROM FAEYR (2D4+3 damage, THACO +5 bonus, gives user 25 strenght (Wow!!! :) ), and kills Stone, Clay golems, ettins and trolls in one hit (no save)

    Iem loccations stated above.

    COST TO MAKE: 10,000GP

That's all I can think of right now, but I think there's more. I know you need Cromwell to make the Human Flesh armour, but I don't know of all the ingreadients, etc

    Hope this helps,

    Herr'Don

You forget the Awesome Silver Sword which has of a 25% chance of a death strike, save vs. death or die.

you get the Blade from the Captin if you except his deal for passage on his boat, leaving spell hold.

You get the Hilt later when you run into those creatures after you escape underdark. Find them in the Slums.

    costs 7,5000 to make

    Another SPOILER...

Just wanted to add one more thing...
You seem to be concerned about mind shield in your weapons. Don't be. Here is another way to get mind protection. Have a spell caster cast Mordenkainen's Sword. Pickpocket it for the Greenstone Amulet (repeat for each fighter). Since there are not any great fighter amulets anyway, you get your mind shield by using a fairly useless slot.

Also, the sword's amulet is more powerful than the Grenstone Amulet you fetch from the Beholder Lair in the Underdark (a bug??). It seems to provide the protection without using charges. When it is triggered/used up, just remove it, put it back on and your protection returns.

Finally, if you want to recharge it on the cheap, pull the fence/pickpocket scam.

With a Greenstone amulet, the Reflection cloak, Crom Faeyr and the Flail of Ages, you will be a frightening dude indeed

special thanks to Herr'Don for the list!

    from what you said,
Hammer of Thunderbolts +3 (In the sewers, in a secret chamber after you get a key from Firkraag)

where's the secret chamber? I remembered that after killing Firkraag's spellcaster, I got a key to rescue the girl from the dungeon, do you mean that key?

Somemore I didn't notice any sewers in Firkraag's lair.. where's it actually?

ps. Now I just started working and my PC is not with me, but in my hometown. So I could only play BG2 during the weekends. This causes that my memories are not so good on places, items etc names :p
