Anyone know a good way to defend against this spell/effect?

I find that while these spells never work for me offensively, they ALWAYS work against my party.

Anyway, Chaotic Commands is not that great: only affects one person, duration is lame, and it really should be third or fourth level spell--certainly not fifth.

I used Chaotic Commands against Greater Wolfweres in Firkraag's Lair and only that helped me, so watch what you're saying about that spell.

I dont think so, I always just used my saving throws and waited for those who got spelled.
You should try to counter their spellcasting, this can be done with arrows, quick magic attacks like magic missle, L-something minor drain, those insect spells the druid has, arrows from a good bow or some other ones.

Else I dont really know, protection from magic might work

[IMG] All of the above plus chaotic comands, a priest spell protecting you from the spells you mentioned.

Duration of Chaotic Commands is lame? 1 turn per level is lame? Sheesh, Minsc and my character cleaned out the entire Mind Flayer lair in the Underdark with one casting of Chaotic Commands each!

For confusion, you could try the 6th level wizard spell, the globe of invulnerability, this spell will protect the mage from ANY 4th level and below spell. As for chaos, I could only recommend chaotic command(DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG IS A TURN!?!?) or you could try Spell Immunity:Enchantments...but I do not know whether the latter could work.

You can use an Inquisitor´s dispell magic very well against chaos. Try the helm of charm protection too. Since chaos is a mind affecting *spell* you should try to improve your saving throws vs. spells as high as possible: Means (a) play a halfling cavalier :D , if not (b) play a dwarf or halfling with wis-18 or if you are playing a different race (c) drink the potion of insight (sets wis to 18).

btw - chaos is a great spell, especially as a first strike spell when it is possible to knock out mages *before* the cast their protective magic and it is great on low savingthrow creatures like orks, orogs and hobgoblins and goblins
