Who Do I give up?

Just got into chp 2 and am in Copper Coronet. Current group is:
Me: Sorcerer (Chaotic Good)
Minsc (CG)
Jaheira (True Neutral)
Yoshimo (TL)
Aerie. (Lawful Good)

Do I drop any of these for the prospects offering to join? I hear that Yoshimo betrays you later....

BTW- I am lvl 9 Sor but only have spells out to lvl 4? How do I increase them?

It's your game, really. Nearly all characters have lots of nice dialogues and sidequests, so it doesn't really matter who's in your party.

You gain better spells as you gain levels, which can be done by gaining experience, thus gaining and solving quests.. damn, that final 'gaining' wasn't really suitable, isn't it ? But it sounded so nicely, I guess I'll call it a polygainiton

 

The Yoshimo betrayal bit fits into the plot. I personally dropped Aerie early on and replaced her clerical abilities with Anomen, who is a dick, but becomes an incredible fighter and strong cleric if you are patient with him and nurture him through the game. If you need the mage spells, try Nalia, she essentially the same as Imoen, though not as good of a thief.

 

Aerie's worthless. And so is Haer Dalis and Cernd.
All the other characters are eiter average or awesome.

 

Cernd sucked! I took him for a brief period in the Druid/Trademeet quest. Faldorn beat the crap out of him in the ring! It wasn't even pretty. Luckily, at the time I had Jaheira pick up his slack!

Impossible! Cernd is perfect for that battle but of course, it is something people seem to forget about Cernd. His most powerful ability.

Shapechange into a werewolf. Faldorn would have been helpless against it.

Cernd as a Greater Werewolf at 13th level. Can only be hit by magical weapons, regeneration, 3 attacks per round. Haste him in this form and you have yourself a very strong killing machine.

Most people never give him a chance to develop and I think is one reason you see many posts slamming him.

Well, he's dead now in my game...I was so disgusted, I left him at the foot of the throne in the Druid Grove.

 

Drop Aerie and take Anomen.

 

And play as if you dont know about Yoshimo's betrayal.

 

My party is now:

Keldorn
Minsc
Jaheira
Anomen
Nalia

They rock. They kick asses. They are all between level 16 and 19. What a team.

 

How can you say dump Ariee. Her mix of spells fits in really well with Jahiera and later Imoen. She's no great character on her own, but the party system is about balance. She has a tremendous amount of spells, but will be able to cast no higher that level 7 cleric spells/level 6 mage spells. But Imoen can cast high level spells, and I'm sure his sorcer can as well. Three mages in the pary rocks! Also have the extra power of 2 high level healers later in the game. I would say dump Yoshimo for Jan(pick up Imoen later), and find yourself another character who can fight. I guess I you want to roleplay, take Keldorn or possibly Valygar or Mazzy. But Korgan(CE) is the strongest of the fighters.

 

How did you get a lawful good berserker? Berserkers can't be lawful.

 

I agree about Aerie. Originally I hated her whining. In fact I still hate her, but she's got a TON of spells. As you go deeper into the game, summoning beasties becomes more and more important (fire elemental can kick some serious monster butt), so I'd hang onto her as long as you can. She maxes out at level 6 and 7 spells though.

The arrogant ("Is that all?" Nalia is probably better than Yoshimo. She's good with a crossbow (give her a slot)and all those bolts of lighning are too good to pass up. (dragons hate them).
I know her thief abilities suck, but memorize a couple of Knock spells (what else you gonna use a lvl 2 on? Luck??) and some potions and she'll get you by till you grab Imoen.

If you don't really want 3 mages, Amonen ("What is is NOW?") (assh*le) is a good spell (protection and offensive) man with some tank abilities and the undead thing comes in handy from time to time. And he's good with a mace and sling. Just make sure he's knighted.

Keldorn's magic resistance and dispell are an attractive option for a paladin too.

Cernd is useless even if he does change to a greater werewolf. He's still no match when he goes one on one against a vampire and gets killed to often in almost every difficult battle. He has a crap AC and gets hit almost every time because he can't wear armour. Mazzy is also useless even if at level 22 and with shit a load of magical items she still sucks.

In my new party in chapter 6 I have:

Shadow of Death-Me 15/20 Level Duel Class Assassin/Fighter

Keldorn 22 Level Paladin

Korgan 21 Level Fighter

Valygar 22 Level Ranger

Minsc 23 Level Ranger

Jaheira 15/16 Level Fighter/Druid

I can walk into any room and kill any thing in the room who is hosile to me. I don't even need to worry about any of them dying in combat. I just walk in and walk out of the room intact. Even when fighting Dragons, I just swat them like flies. My party makes saving throws against all spells and little or no damage is done to them.

 

My party right now is:

Jerky (Me - Mage)
Minsc
Valygar
Viconia
Jan
Aerie

Very good group, my only regret is that I don't have a paladin, because i wanna use Crom Faeyr soo badly...

 

So much depends on your party's alignment.

At heroic (rep 20), Viconia and Edwin (to name a few) are kinda outta the picture... depending on your rep when they joined.

Hard to keep either one of them in a lawful good pary, especially with Minsc in the group.

Of course, there's nothing that says you have to have 6 people anyways.

I found Mazzy quite decent really, although not particularly outstanding. And if you cheat, you can swat any dragon like a fly.

 

A 16th level druid? That's a neat trick Orgrim. : )
