I always find choosing names the hardest when starting a game and seem to spend ages in limbo just trying to choose a good name. Especially as the games take ages and you have to sit and look at it for so long.

    Anyway, I tend to use:

Bard - BARD (inspired by Hobbit character that shot Smaug?)
    Druid - DRU or RADAGAST
    Fighter - KRULL
    Mage - ARCADIUS
Mage/Thief - MARIUS (vampire in queen of the damned)
    Paladin - GIDEON or GABRIEL
    Ranger - RANIC
    Thief - BLADE or DARIUS

    If multi-playing .....

    Dwarf - GRIM
Elf Female - EMERALD or TOPAZ
    Elf Male - TIMORN
Half-elf Female - MIRIUM or STARLING
    Halfling - TED

Warrior of any type and male and human: Sir Gallowin.

    Mage female Human: Lina Inverse.

    Theif: New

I don't play with anything besides elves and humans, call me lazy.

Naming is indeed the hardest thing to do.
I´ve always been lousy on naming characters ever since I played Dungeons and Dragons when I was a kid. So I usually take names on cool characters I´ve seen in movies. Gandalf for example.

I know it´s a foul thing to do, but I´m just that bad on thinking out one of my own :D

[IMG] I usually find names easy. When I get to the naming section I just type what my character feels like. however, there are a few people that will stay the same:

    Thomas - Neutral/Good Druid
    Murphey - Evil Fighter
    Hannah - Good Ranger/Bard
    Anmin - Paladin
    Dolina - LG Ranger
    Trinatay - LE Necromancer
    Tristan - Neutral Cleric

NE Fighter (or any fighter actually) - Lazy Bonzo, in it for the cash and the reward and lazy as hell.

Thief or Mage - Zar or Zar le'Zapatique

    I don't play clerics/priests.

    Ohh, just remembered.
When creating mages I´ve gotten myself to always start their name with a Z lately.
Inspired by some favorite heroes in HoMM 3.
    Zydar (for mentioning someone) :)

The D&D Deities and Demigods manual as a cool place for inspiration. It has the names of all the Gods of the D&D, Greek, Egyptian, Norse, etc, pantheons. All in one handy little book.

I collect sometimes cool names on a list, and choose names from it, when I'm making character.

    Like these:
    Cadaukor - paladin
    Zargoth - wizard
    Caenwan "Shadowblade" - thief
    Vraedna - drow mage

Nildar or Nildach (Dwarf). I worked out a system where you take the three letters from your first name and three from your surname to get your fantasy name. Take whichever letters make the name sound coolest. It doesn't have to be from your surname and it doesn't have to be three letters. It works though, except if in my case, you want it to sound Dwarven then you get another name.

Usually my main character is an elven male ranger named Saef Songbow. And if I take characters other than that I'll take a dwarf fighter named Gerg Thunderfist and/or a female elf wizard named Kyrie Starlight.... Not really sure why. It just sort of came to me. *shrug*

I tend to get words from one of tolkiens langauges and combind them. Like for a thief I might find shadow and knife and combind them, to get shadow knife, but in Tolkien elvish/dwalvish/orcish

    Dolgan Silverhammer

The Midkemian king of Dwarves is really powerful... :) I use his name mainly for dwarven fighters or fighter/clerics... I used it on Icewind Dale when I played and replayed one mega/super/grand powerful group, who all are level 30 (actually they were one party and two solos - Dolgan was in the party)... :)

    Paladins/Cavalier - Tomas d'Abele
Fighter/Thieves - Tasslehof Burrfoot (always a halfling, never pure thief)
Mae/Thief - Galaine d'Akovale (always elven, never pure mage)

The other names I think them of myself... E.g. for drows on IWD 2 I chose Carido Do'Vardan or Saymalon Talkara (I thought of it in the instant)... :)

Ezellohar, Krein, Chennendra, I can think up a whole bunch of 'em. Just ask.
