Is there such a thing as a safe password breaker; something without trojans and viruses to hack and infect my computer?

Depends on what kind of file you have passworded. Advanced Archive Password Recovery can work for some (its shareware though i believe, its been a while since i got it), however a lot of things now a days are resistant to breaking programs (ie, winrar limits the amount of times per minute a password can be inputed meaning brute-force attacks can take weeks to succeed. Anyway, i'm sure there's better things out there but i'm only a gamer with some computer know-how, not the tech savvy type.

It depends on what "kind of password" you are trying to recover. Cain & Abel is a good tool for Windows password recovery, for example. It should not take long to crack basic Windows passwords, depending on the processing power.

Cain & Abel is a password recovery tool for Microsoft Operating Systems. It allows easy recovery of various kind of passwords by sniffing the network, cracking encrypted passwords using Dictionary, Brute-Force and Cryptanalysis attacks, recording VoIP conversations, decoding scrambled passwords, recovering wireless network keys, revealing password boxes, uncovering cached passwords and analyzing routing protocols.

On another forum, the mods and admins are having some wacko April 1st event and the forum members are to look for "clues". I suck at these kinds of things, esecially when no one on that forum will bother to say what a person needs to do to play in the event. :grr:

Supposedly, after you find all the "clues", you will get the password to a special forum. Nothing has been said about not cheating and I'm frustrated as hell. I thought maybe getting a password breaker would do something. Yes, it's "cheating" and no, I don't care anymore. :p

Hmmh... I don't think there's any way to break that kind of a password.

The only two ways to break a forum password would be via brute force attacks or through an exploit. The first will automatically get you banned after a few attempts if the board's semi-decent, and the second option spells perm-ban for any admin who isn't really stupid.

Note that it's not really likely that you'll find message board exploits listed anywhere, or that any will work if the board software is up to date.
