Alignment "Consequences"?

    [​IMG] On the character creation screen, when you choose your alignment, it says "If you stray severely from your alignment during the course of the game, there will be consequences."

    What exactly are those consequences?

    AFAIK there is no penalty or reward from straying from alignment in IWD2 (or in any of the IE games for that matter, except in PST where your alignment will shift accordingly). The only character you might have to worry about is the Paladin, but I played one and don't remember seeing him fall due to any decision I made.

    The only thing you have to keep an eye on is that the Paladin and Monk will usually refuse monetary rewards, so if you're taking on quests or reporting success and want the money you'll have to do it with another character. Even there your Paladin won't have the opportunity to be greedy and fall - the "accept money" option will simply not be there.

    Well, I knew about the Paladin/Monk part. I just didn't think that the game would lie to me... :cry:

    Better get used to it. IWD2 is known to contain a host of errors, omissions and bugs, of which most remain after the patch has been installed.

    Came to think of it.. An errata for the printed manual and game text would most likely contain more text than the originals. :p

    It's not just IWD2. IIRC all the BG and IWD game manuals mention something about alignment and how playing out of alignment could lead to trouble. Nothing ever happens if you do though (not that there's much evil you can do in IWD anyway). You can have a Lawful Good PC in BG and BG2 and, as long as he's not a Paladin (I don't remember if Rangers can fall too, but I don't think so) you can make do all the evil actions in the world, take the Evil ending in ToB, and your alignment will still be Lawful Good. Don't think of your beloved games lying to you, think of it as a feature that the devs thought would be really cool to implement but couldn't ;)

    I believe I have read that in IWD I, a Paladin or Ranger can fall, by killing several of the certain mainstay individuals in Kuldahar. The lose all their special abilites, basically making them fighters who can't go beyond ** with weapons. I could be wrong, but I think that's the case.

    Paladins can become fallen in BG1, BG2, IWD1 and IWD2. Rangers too with the exception of IWD2 IIRC.

    In IWD, by going on a mass killing spree in one of the villages. IIRC there are no quests that you can complete in an evil way (like in BG2) so the only way they can fall is if the party's reputation becomes too low.
