I really liked the alignment mechanic in the KotOR series, whereas you start out as true neutral and your actions dictate your alignment thereafter. I think I may give that a go sometime soon.

That said, is it possible to start out as, say, a Warlock, where the initial requirement is "any non-good" alignment, and then gradually become good through your deeds? I'm curious what will happen, but I assume it's one of three:

    1) You'll stop being able to use all Warlock abilities or level up again as a Warlock until you restore your neutrality.

    2) You'll merely stop taking levels as a Warlock, but can still use your abilities and level up in other classes.

    3) Nothing happens and it's only a factor at character creation.

Please tell me if there's a number 4. I tend to think it's number 3 (as it is with the Paladin and keeping Lawful Good). Are there other classes that this applies to?

My understanding is it's number 2. At the time of level-up you cannot take a class if you do not qualify for it for any reason. I remember reading something like that in a tip during the load screen.

I have no personal experience with that though because I haven't played an alignmnent restricted class.

I have not had that issue with a warlock but in NWN1 I built a with Berserker/Dwarven Defenders and it definitely worked as #2 on your list. When I switched from chaotic to lawful I could start taking Dwarven Defender levels and I couldn't take any more barbarian levels.

alighment is important if you want to progress in your current class, but there is no other penalty associated with it (you retain all abilities, and even your paladin will not fall)

you should be careful with alignment sensitive classes such as druids

A warlock must be either evil or chaotic or both. So you can be Chaotic Good.

It can be tricky keeping to a Chaotic Good alignment as the dev's often make the "good" dialog options "lawful" as well  I found no more than 2 or 3 chaotic good choices in the whole game. Fortunately there are plenty of "chaos" options, usually associated with telling lies. So the way to stay chaotic good is to choose all the good options and tell lies at every opportunity, even when you have no need to do so. Having told the lies however never exploit the advantage that you gain, that often earns evil points.
