An '80s song nets me 80K

    Remember the old song "Eternal Flame"? Well, I don't know if I'm only just now finding the oldest trick in the book...but has anyone noticed that if you cast "Continual Flame" on an item, it increases its sell value?

    I found this accidentally after casting this third-level Cleric spell on my +1 Mace so it could serve as a torch. I found another +1 Mace and went to sell it...and noticed that my mace with the Continual Flame effect was worth significantly more. Not enough of a boost that I could get away with buying an item, enchanting it, and selling it back, but still a noticeable increase. Pret' soon I was giving the nightlight treatment to all my wares, and now I'm swimming in cash.

    Should I consider this a cheap exploit, or just clever marketing? Like "Eternal Flame"?

    As long as you only do it once per a shop I see no problem with it.

    I'm not really ripping them off...I'm just "adding value" to these items. I poured a lot of experience points into the R&D required to learn that spell, and I have to make back my investment, so it's only fair that I charge outrageous surcharges though it costs me almost nothing per casting.

    Sounds legit to me. That spell you cast is something no ordinary commoner could do. IIRC Continual Flame is permanent (I also assume this due to the 'Continual' part of the name) so you're actually enchanting stuff. I'm certain any would-be adventurer who wants to tackle the underdark would love a device such as that (with the Underdarkians being sensitive to light to the point that it causes pain and slight uncordination). So heck, continual flame = good entrepreneur skills there.

    I agree...flame away. You are using a skill to enhance an item...you are realizing a profit from a skill...how incredibly like the real world!

    Of course, Mr. Magistrate...there is the little issue of "unreported earnings" due to your magical skills that we would like to discuss with you...
