Okay, got my fighter type character, thought I'd dump a few points into Bastard Sword. Hits hard, hits lots, I approve. Right. This is the sword she WAS using :

Bastard Sword +3 : Cold Fire

    Damage : 1d10 + 3
    Attack Bonus : + 3
    Enchantment : + 3
    Damage Type : Slashing
    Special :
    Frost : 1d6 Cold Damage
    Fire : 1d6 Fire Damage

I like it. And it gives me an attack of the following : +25/+20/+15/+10 (that's with 5 points sacrificed to Expertise, she's a damn tank)

Now I find the following sword :

    Bastard Sword of Heroism

    Damage : 1d10 + 3
    Attack Bonus : + 3
    Enchantment : + 5
    Damage Type : Slashing
    Special :
Sure Striking : +5 to hit enchant blah blah
    Keen : Increased critical etc
    Slashing : Extra 3d6 slashing

And my attack drops to +22/17/+12/+7!

God damnit. So THIS must mean sure striking only works to hit enchanted-required targets, giving +5, but without it, the base +3 attack bonus is totally ignored, making this weapon USELESS. That doesn't make sense. The weapon should give a +3 attack bonus, like it says, until the target is immune to normal weapons, at which point the sure striking should kick in. Instead, it's sure striking or nothing. Sure striking out, anyway. Sure striking my keyboard in disgust. Sure- okay, enough weak gags.

Please tell me I'm right, that's a bug, and it needs fixing. Otherwise it doesn't make much sense. Anyway, just thought I'd mention it since no-one seems to have yet (or at least not on cursory browsing, my bad if someone has)

Its quite likely a bug. Surestriking should only apply towards determing if a critter can be hurt by the weapon, but it shouldn't negate the base attack and damage bonuses.

The sword is very far from useless. Keen weapons are absolutely amazing. An extra 5% chance to do double damage is great. Plus the extra 3d6 damage is better than having a straight across +5 weapon. My fighter's overall damage increased enormously.
