[IMG] Here's a journal entry from my newest rogue halfling, Rem Stoneybrook. I killed my first pc last night, but since it was drow, and in character, things worked out about as well as they could...Check it out below:

Well, I have to say...I've been fairly open minded about the drow showing up in Daggerdale, until last night...

Glen Eyre and I were returning to the city from an aborted trip to White Chalk Hollow ((it was late for me, and I wanted to log)), and just entered the River Gate. I was looking forward to a mug of ale in the Dagger, and a restful night. As I passed through the gate, I thought to myself: "ahh, it's nice to be within the safety of the walls for a bit of a rest!" But that was not to be.

On the way to the warehouse district, Glen and I came face to face with a drow elf, in full battle dress, with shiny black armor! As we stood in front of him, we asked what he was doing within the walls unescorted. He said since Lord Morn's proclaimation, it's been easier for them to slip in and out of the city. Before I could ask him if he met with the guard or the Councillor's, he drew a greataxe and lunged for Glen!

Thinking quickly, I dropped into the shadows and fired a bolt at the fiend! It found its mark, but failed to drop the foe...But now he was aware of me. His glowing eyes horrifying as he chased me into the warehouse district. Once there, we exchanged blows. I was severely wounded, but as I was struck, so did I pierce the dark elf's hide with another bolt. He fell to the ground; his lifeblood running from him.

"There will be more like me, you cannot stop the Drow!" he said, as he lay there dying. Perhaps, I thought...But I will stop you. Then I drove my dagger into his side. The fight was done, but I trembled still. I was once open minded about having the dark elves enter Dagger Falls, but now I question Lord Morn's wisdom in this decision. Open fighting in the streets of Dagger Falls?!?! Is this what it's come to?

    ****

I gathered the drow's equipment, drank deeply of a potion of healing, and went to report the deed to the guard. Along the way, I met back up with Glen and some others outside the Freedom Fighter's Hall. I told my account of the night's events, to their mutual horror. Kerrick also appeared, with the drow's body in tow.

After hearing the story himself, and tending my wounds, Kerrick and Glen accompanied me to the Councillor's Office, where I waited for Valthor and Salvanus to judge my tale. Valthor appeared, and I gave him a full account of the fight, and the drow's chilling words. "You've done Dagger Falls a great service this day, Lord Morn shall hear of it." he exclaimed at the end of the telling. He also said he would speak to Lord Morn about doubling the guard at the gates...I hope it is enough.

From this night forward, my crossbow will be cocked and ready for action, even within the walls! Tis not safe here any longer...

Dammit! Blackthorne definitely needs to be spending more time with Rem. I should have time tonight and hopefully tomorrow.

So what happened to Glen when the Drow chased you? How come he wasn't there to help?

[IMG] He ran the other way, and didn't show up until it was over....Come to think of it, I don't think he got a shot off! But, those Drow'll put the fear into you! The devils!

*** I might be able to meet up...I'm going out tonight (I agree with the criticism that I need to meet a girl!!!) Saturday, I'm going to the Scottish games...Unless it's REALLY raining!!! I can only take so much scottish weather! ;) ***

[IMG] Math...I can't believe you're not already a member!!!!!! I'm telling you, it is a blast! It's like playing PnP DnD, but you see it all happening! It's like being a character in a movie, with everyone playing in character.

When the DM's are on, it makes it even better! New quests are started, and they take over some of the monsters you fight...It gives everything a fresh, new experience - multiplayer/DMing is definitely the strength behind NWN!

As for classes...Cleric's are always welcome. It is the fool that adventures without one! Dude, sign up and get in! It's the best waste of time I've ever had!!!!

[IMG] Mat, sounds great! I have a few characters I'm preparing (after all, I probably will die once or twice :( ) -- Garret Thorngage (human cleric), Kahraman Hayat (human paladin -- my all-time favorite character), Toril Stedfast (dwarven fighter/cleric?), an as yet unnamed tinkering gnome (mage/thief I guess), and perhaps Kyrie Eleison (female elven paladin -- not sure if I can play a female or not though). So as you can see, I have trouble deciding too! :D

Don't worry Math - you'll have plenty of opportunity to play different characters once you get into ALFA :)

Capstone: Go ahead and play a girl - there is a noticeable dearth of females at most times (seems to be about 1:5 ratio). One thing is for sure: female characters get noticed much more often ;) I played a female half-elf ranger with a very high CHA for a while who was quite popular - she usually had to choose between vying parties. Too bad her foot got caught under a rock while hunting goblins :(

Great to see interest growing! Now, if I can only find more time to actually play.

[IMG] Heh, it's the "interest" thing that has me worried; other than that, I think I can handle the female psyche. I just don't know how much I would want to roleplay a romance with a guy. :D

Well, Cynedra never did have any romances - although there were a few offers she 'declined' ;) But it was very entertaining to see how other characters went out of their way to help her out. Although, I think I caught a few players off guard a couple of times when I mentioned OOC that my wife needed her computer back :p

No, I would guess that's Gnolyn's way of roleplaying his character's death due to lag :)

[IMG] Heh, Mat, that's what I put in for... haven't decided completely on a server yet, either Daggerdale or Arabel. Where are you going?

Footnote: still haven't received NWN!@!! Come on Amazon!

Well, not quite lag actually, but close ;) Every once in a while a moving object, such as a character or a NPC, will get 'stuck' in another immovable graphic, such as a tree, wall or door. From the computer's point of view part of the character, or the entire character, is 'inside' the other graphic. Usually if this happens to your character you can get another PC (or DM controlled NPC) to bump into your PC and 'knock' them out of it. It happens very rarely, but does seem to occur more often when there is lag on the server and PC movement is staggered.

Unfortunately, this happened to my character in the midst of a battle: her leg got stuck in a rock :nolike: It was a tough fight and the rest of the party started to flee - but I couldn't move, and no one was able to 'bump' me. One other PC did come back to help her, but it was too late and both our characters bought it.

Bel and I have been playing on Daggerdale; it was a real blast last night. Spawn from the Underdark, Drow, Zhents and a Balor! Unbelievable!

[IMG] Here's my journal entry for last nights fun, to give you an idea of what BTA is talking about:

"Biggest damned thing I ever saw!" Rem exclaimed as he slumped in his chair. "First the hook horrors and the little beasties, then the bloody drow! And as if that weren't enough...A full blown demon from the Abyss!

The battles were fierce down in the Crypts of Lathander! Wave after wave of the curs-ed little nightshades and Hook Horrors broke like waves on a rock as they fell to Falin's axe. Oti, Glen, Rwn, Alen and I supported his charge with volleys of arrows and bolts, even Bita and the Freedom Fighters helped to stem the assault!

But then it got worse...A globe of darkness began to engulf the Temple of Lathander, the herald of even more terrible things to come. The drow! Light armored scouts, deadly archers and even powerful mages rained arrows and flaming death upon our group, but we stood fast...Until that horror of horrors came down upon us - A demon from the Abyss!

Its head nearly bumping the ceiling of the Temple, wreathed in a flame that danced about him as he lunged for Bita with his huge sword. She fought valiantly against his onslaught, but fell in the end. His skull of a face smiled in twisted glee as he rent her body. The balor turned to our group and commanded us to flee or face his wrath! Our company wisely chose to flee, because none of our weapons even nicked the hide of the great beast from the Abyss.

As the demon chased my comrades from, the huge beast blocked the exit to the Temple, so I stuck to the shadows and waited for my chance. As I cowered alone in the darkness, the balor summoned another foul tanar'ri; a succubus! Well, that was all I needed to see! I skulked from the Temple and ran to see Lord Morn."

Rem slumped further into chair and slurped a bit of ale. "Dark days are a coming my friends, mark me well. Dark, dark days..."

    ********

"And what of this Satish?" Rem grumbled to himself. "I first heard only dark rumor of her foul deeds, but after meeting her, I know she is not one to be trusted. Her tale do be twisted and evil, or I am as tall as a hill giant!"

"When we returned to the Temple with Kerrick to investigate the balor more closely, all we found was a dark and foul seeming woman named Satish. She squirmed and twisted a tale of being a poor worshiper of Lathander, and evaded questions of her deeds and whereabouts during the nights' madness.

She grudgingly agreed to go before Lord Morn to account for herself. Is was there that most of her story was told by Oti of her dark deeds in the Hall of Heroes crypts. Seeing that she was discovered, she fled the Freedom Fighters Hall and disappeared into the streets of Dagger Falls. I doubt that is the last we'll see of her."

Rem peered into his mug thoughtfully, then looked up. "Be wary in your dealings with that one" he warned. "When she appears, Zhents, Drow, and even shadowspawn from the Abyss are not far behind...."

Come to Arabel: it's not over populated like Daggerdale, but it's just a short 'walk' away if you care to visit ;) Lots of orcs and goblins, desperate bandits wander the roads, rumours abound of Drow entering the region, and ghostly visages can be seen on dark, moonless nights.

Seriously, Gothmog (and any other new players), try another server like Arabel or Scarsdale. Both are in the same region and Daggerdale is getting a little too crowded. In Arabel (can't say for Scarsdale) there is almost always a DM on. I notice that you're from Slovenia, so you should try to find a server that has European DMs and players, or at least one that has activity when you would be playing.

My little gnome Gnevin has advanced to second level. Yay! I feel like super-gnome :p He's currently trying to help a down-trodden man discover the fate of his family, however things are rarely as easy as they seem. Twice he has ventured out, only to find that their last known location has been razed to the ground, and the ghosts of the fallen townsfolk wander the streets at night. On his last journey to that tagic place, he found his path blocked by a large band of wild men. So now he's seeking a few brave souls to help him in this quest.

Edit: Sir Bel and BTA, I highly recommend a visit to the Vast Swamp at some point. Preferably when you're another level or so higher ;) If you've never been, the scenery alone will knock your socks off.

I have a story to tell too :D

I was on a quest to light a welcoming light for a incoming caravan. I went to the place where i could do this and had a Animal companion beside me(bear).
I entered the caves and explored them a bit. I came to the place where i could lit the lights but i could not yet as i didnt know how. Becouse of that i wandered a bit further exploring the caves.
I entered the room with some bones lying on the floor. I run to those bones not noticing a Wraith charging at me. When i do notice it its a bit late already. The bear attacks him and so do i but he already damages me very criticaly and another one runs at us from the shadows. As i turn to run away from them the first one attacks me again and hits. *BOM* and i'm dead.

As i'm lying there dying in my last moments i see my bear kill off both of them and then getting beside me. As he arrives to me i die.

Then his rather considerable inteligence (for an animal) comes in... He leaves this place and goes to look for a friend of mine Tania Vendura.
When he finds her he gets her to follow him, pushing her with his snout if she's too slow. Slowly they both advance toward the caves where i fell. They beat a beastman before the entrance, who was really at the wrong place at a wrong time ;)
As she sees my body she picks it up and carries me to the temple where i can be ressurected.

So ended a foolish adventure of a newbie who though he can take care of liting the light himself. NEVER adventure alone when in Daggedale. Thats the first lesson you learn while adventuring there.
