OK, just before I was surfing the web, when suddenly EVERY WINDOW closed and my computer reset. Upon the restart and after logging in, this thing called 'AntiSpyware XP 2009' informed me that my computer had been infected with spyware and that I should download something for them. Ok WTF????

It changed my homepage to Google and I couldn't access ANYTHING on internet explorer because every time I try to load a page, it begins to work, then says that my computer is still infected and that I need to download whatever sh!t it keeps telling me to download! It keeps saying it's recommended for Windows XP however it all seems REALLY weird and I don't know what to do!

Luckily Firefox wasn't affected, so I'm able to browse. At least, for now.

Anyway, this 'thing' created an icon on my desktop and immediately started checking my computer for spyware upon logging on. It said I had 25 pieces of spyware and again, THAT I SHOULD DOWNLOAD THEY'RE CRAP. Is this thing serious, because honestly, it just seems like another piece of spyware

I checked the folder that magically appeared upon the restart. There's a Windows Office Icon in there, so is this stupid thing actually real or what? I continue to harbour doubts, as when I opened the 'uninstall' program, it comes up with "You already have antispyware 2009 xp installed!" WTF???

And every five seconds, a warning keeps popping up in the system tray saying that I'm infected and that I should, again, DOWNLOAD something to fix it. And just before another warning came up saying I had a trojan. Honestly, CAN SOMEONE HELP ME :( :( :(

Ok, well it's obvious I've got it :( And I don't think I'll be purchasing the removal tool (although I'd really like to at this point) so is there any safer way to remove it without going through the long manual process described there??

Edit: I should probably mention that I panicked JUST a little... So before I read the link BTA gave me, I downloaded ThreatFire (Kitrax's Guide) and it found the files, which I was able to detect and thus delete. After reading the guide that BTA referred me to, I'm guessing the stupid thing isn't exactly gone yet. Should I still run the registry part? Or will that not work now, considering I've deleted some of the other files

I imagine a spyware removal tool would remove it automatically for you if you don't want to go the manual route (and that site I linked recommends one). I don't have a recommendation however; perhaps someone else will.

EDIT: Oh, but yes you should be able to follow the other manual instructions even though you've removed some of it.

Using C-Cleaner, I searched the registry and found a few problems (most of them AntiSpyware Xp 2009 related). It recommended deleting them as the sensible option, so HOPEFULLY, I won't have much trouble with this again...

I'll post back in the morning if anything happens again, hopefully not :(

Thanks for the help BTA :)

Ugh...I hate that type of spyware. :nolike:

If TF and CCleaner found and cleared it up, that's a good start, however, there are probably still parts of it hidden in the registry that aren't being detected.

I'd do as BTA's linked guide suggests. :thumb: :rolling:

I wouldn't know what to do really (even though the link tells you exactly what to do) as MOST of it has been deleted, including the folder which had been created on my hard drive.
